Caring for Jewish Servicemen and Inmates Pesach Needs

Caring for Jewish men and women serving in our country’s military, Aleph just completed sending out thousands of Passover packages for Jewish US military personnel serving in dangerous places around the world, as well as to Jewish inmates, who are incarcerated around the country.

While most people can simply go into their local grocery store and find an assortment of Kosher for Passover products, there are some that cannot. Aleph ships to US Naval vessels at sea, to Afghanistan military outposts, and to prisons in Louisiana and South Dakota and everything in between.

Aleph starts planning for Passover in December. It is a major operation, they have to contact all the prisons and all the Jewish service members and military chaplains to get correct numbers and shipping addresses. then they to buy and arrange the delivery of the many truckloads of kosher for Passover food items to their warehouse.

Charoses is flown in from Israel. Broiled chicken necks are made special to order. The packing and shipping is a massive undertaking. The most important thing is that Aleph gets everything delivered on time before Passover starts.

Every Jew in the US Military and every Jewish inmate in the US will be able to observe Passover this year because Aleph makes it happen, no matter what.

The Jewish inmates and soldiers don’t just get machine matzah (25,000 pounds were sent out this year), they  also get hand made shmurah matzo (1,000 pounds were sent out this year). 5,000 bottles of grape juice, 1,200 seder plates complete with shelf stable hard boiled eggs and charoses, bitter herbs and zeroas. 2,000 containers of gefilte fish. 1,500 containers of shelf stable chicken matzo ball soup. Close to 15,000 cans of macaroons, 1,000’s of Haggadahs and much much more.

I applaud the Aleph’s outreach. However, why are our heroic Jewish service members lumped into with murderers, rapists, and robbers?
