Suspected Drunk Driver Causes Mayhem on Eastern Parkway

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — At around 10:00 this evening a serious accident involving three cars took place on Eastern Parkway between New York and Nostrand Avenues. One vehicle struck two other cars traveling in the opposite direction then came to rest when it collided with a pole at the intersection of Nostrand and Eastern Parkway.

More pictures and a video in the Extended Article.

Shomrim members were the first to arrive on scene and found the car doors to be stuck trapping all three passengers and driver in the car, but after managing to gain access through an open window the members began stabilizing the patients until Hatzalah arrived which was a mere moments later, along with Police, FDNY and EMS.

All the passengers from the car were loaded up on stretchers and into Hatzalah and FDNY ambulances and shuttled off to local hospitals including Kings County and Methodist Hospitals.

Police took the driver of the car into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, he was transported to a local precinct where he was further tested.

CrownHeights.info has learned that the driver went to 770 in order to give his father a ride home from a Farbrengen and apparently took additional passengers.

the cause of this horrendous accident was on of ours???
The street was closed off for a very long time.
I saw some of what happened. it seems there were some official cars coming down New York Avenue and the police stopped traffic on Eastern Parkway to allow this enterage to make a left from New York onto Eastern Parkway. The drive must have thought he could make it through

  • Watch how much you drink

What a great pre-Purim warning. Perhaps you can put up another story or two about the effects of drunken driving, to subtly send the message of how dangerous it is to drive (or be) under the influence.

Even though people already know it’s dangerous, it helps to be reminded with a real, true-to-life story that shakes us up.

  • refuah shelaima

refuah shelaima! i hope no one was badly hurt and that the driver was not infact dui!!!

  • CONCERNED!

A wonderful effort by our volunteer EMS and our FDNY. They all did a quick job helping the injured and protecting all so that no further harm could come!

The police came later with a mechanic’s truck and towed the car a few feet. In the old days, tow trucks used to do such tasks. I guess there were no crooks around that night, so thanks for moving the car anyway!

  • DONT DRIVE DRUNK!!!! NO EXCUSES ARE GOOD

To “Watch how much you drink”. I think you are right. Look how terribly our community has been affected and how terribly we look on drunk drivers. Look at what happened to R’ Gedaliah Shaffer ZT’L. What a tzaddik! Taken away from us by a drunk driver. and only a year ago. Last Purim was 2 days before he was murdered. We suffer enough from what goyim do to us, we have to make sure we aren’t doing the same to ourselves.

That wasn’t a mechanic’s truck. That was Emergency Services. The vehicle was moved those few feet to get it off of the divider and away from the pole that it had hit.

I’m no expert, but the car was used during a criminal act (drunk driving) so it needed to be towed by the NYPD anyway for the purposes of preserving evidence. Thats common sense, is it not?
