Early Morning Fire Injures 17, Including Two Firefighters in Crown Heights

Update: The FDNY has updated the number of injured in the fire to 17, three of which have since been declared dead at a local hospital.

Ten people, including two firefighters, were injured early Sunday morning in a house fire on Albany Ave in Crown Heights.

The fire was reported around 4:40am at 242 Albany Ave between Park Pl and Sterling Pl in upper Crown Heights. The multi story private dwelling was found by firefighters heavily engulfed in flames which was quickly upgraded to a third alarm fire.

Firefighters worked for more than an hour to put out the flames and attend to the injured, which totaled ten by the time the fire was finally declared out. Two firefighters were injured as well as three people tagged as being in critical condition, with early reports indicating that they were removed from the home with CPR in progress. The other injured were labeled as having only minor injuries.

Hatzalah’s assistance was not needed in this case and the city’s EMS system transported the injured to the hospital.
