President St. Fire Nearly Claims Toddler’s Life
A fast moving fire on President Street sent plumes of think black smoke into the air, and nearly claimed the life of a two-and-a-half year old toddler, whose father says it is a miracle that his son is alive.
The fire broke out at in 1427 President Street, just off Kingston Avenue, at around 4:00pm. The fire broke out in a second floor bedroom in the rear of the home where a two-and-a-half year old toddler was asleep.
Speaking to CrownHeights.info the father of the toddler said that it is a miracle his son is alive. “I went upstairs to wake my son up for a therapy session and right away I was hit with the smoke and fire, so I grabbed my son, ran out of the house and called 911.”
“It is a miracle, an open miracle, if not for the therapist coming just then I would have not gone upstairs and discovered the fire before it was too late” he added.
It took fire fighters over 25 minutes to completely douse the flames, which got into the walls and foam insulation and making the smoke especially thick and fire more sooty then normal.
The only reported injury was B”H the toddlers minor case of smoke inhalation, he was treated by Hatzalah.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be electrical.
