Is Our Congresswoman an Idiot?

Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (D), who represents Crown Heights and the surrounding neighborhoods in the U.S. House of Representatives, has demonstrated that she does’t possess even a fourth grade level knowledge of the history of the district she represents.

In an embarrassing interview with comedian Stephen Colbert, Mrs. Clarke seems to believe that the Dutch enslaved African-Americans in Brooklyn in 1898 – 33 years after the civil war ended, and 234 years after the Dutch were driven out.

In the video (link below) Mr. Colbert asks “Some have called Brooklyn’s decision to become part of New York City ‘The Great Mistake of 1898; if you could get in a time machine and go back to 1898, what would you say to those Brooklynites?“

”I would say to them, ‘Set me free,’“ Clarke responds. Pressed by Colbert what she would be free from, the African-American congresswoman responded, ”Slavery.“

”Slavery. Really? I didn’t realize there was slavery in Brooklyn in 1898,” Colbert said, giving Clarke a chance to step back from her remarks.

She didn’t.

“I’m pretty sure there was,” Clarke continued.

“It sounds like a horrible part of the United States that kept slavery going until 1898,” Colbert followed.

The lawmaker seemed to pause, saying “Uh.”

But Colbert kept going, asking, “Who would be enslaving you in 1898 in New York?”

Still not finished, Clarke responded, “The Dutch.”

“Those sneaky Dutch” Colbert said.

Clarke responded, “Exactly.”

Slavery was abolished in New York State in 1827, 38 years before the 13th amendment was ratified, abolishing it from the entire United States in 1865.

The Dutch relinquished control of Brooklyn to the British in 1664.

Rep. Clarke is also known to consistently support anti-Israel legislation, and to harbor communist sympathies.

    By being a communist it is self evident that she is so dumb so dumb… it is mind boggling how a chosid (in our neighborhood) can work for her when all she is is an anti smite and anti capitals. She is very opinionated so anything she believes is a Google search away. Just saying….

    She thinks that we are all brain dead just like our representatives to her, namely Chanina Sperlin who takes care of the intergovern-mental affairs of our community and Eli Slavin who is the Jewish Moshke (Jew-boy-court-Jew) working for her (on a nice salary) in her office.

    Like all anti-Semites she finds the Moshke who tells us all to look the other way and she meets the intergovern“mental” guy who calls himself our representative even after he was trounced out in the last election.

    She votes against Jews and against israel and we all run to vote for her and to support her, go figure.

    I doubt 99% of Crown Heights (including the Jews) could tell you a thing about the history of slavery in NYC, so in that sense, she truly is “representative” of her district.

    Do you have any idea what Communism is, or do you just throw around sensational epithets you pick up on radio shows?

    According to Dictionary.com, Communism is defined as:
    “A theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.”

    Please direct your readers to the specific quote or statement made by the Congresswoman which indicates her support for the collective ownership of all property.

    If supporting Food Stamps, Unemployment, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, public education etc make one a Communist, well its safe to assume that the overwhelming majority of Congress — on both sides of the aisle — support “communism”.

    News flash: all of the above mentioned programs requires the “redistribution of wealth”. All civilized countries on planet earth have social safety nets that are paid for via taxation. Taxes are not paid equally. Supporting this system of governance does not make one a “Communist”, or is it, a “commy”.

    Considering that a disproportionate number of Crown Heights residents (again — including the Jews) rely in part on food stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, Head Start, WIC, Social Security etc, it is perfectly reasonable for the Congresswoman to advocate for those causes. Even the Crown Heights Community Council advocates for them.

    If welfare support were a measure a “Communist sympathy”, it would safe to assume that there are a whole lot of “Communists” in the Frum community.

    Shut off the radio every now and then, and think for yourself. Mindless regurgitation of empty talking points hardly makes you seem like the wise historian or educated citizen.

    For those who have never seen Colbert: he makes a mockery at interviews but usually the interviewee knows how to intelligently respond. This woman clearly is just another ignorant black who has no idea what she is saying. Her responses are not a joke even if they are funny; they are pitiful and sad.

    Without due insult to Rhodes scholars and Albert Einstein, Ms. Clarke’s answers indicate that she is lacking in quite a bit of fundamental essential knowledge. but her communist beliefs and polices puts her intellectual level on the same grounds as a microtus because they are completely delusional about its benefits–just ask anyone who has lived under communism–or as I was a Fulbright scholar in a communist country–life there(you fill in the blanks)

    Very entertaining. Get rid of the article and label it as comedy, which is what it is. And given what a small part of the district the shechuna is, we are lucky Yvette Clarke and not someone worse represents us.

    The article is offensive and disrespectful, the Congesswoman is no idiot, she’s doing an absolutely phenomenal job for the people of the 11th soon to be 9th congressional district. These comments are all unnecessary, some are outright racist, there’s no tolerance for any of it. There are more important things to focus on, starving children, homeless people, our seniors, healthcare…

    #14, Clarke is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus; that alone justifies calling her a communist.

    And yes, anyone who believes that Congress has the right to take as much as it wants from people, and anything it chooses not to take is a “giveaway” for which they should be grateful, MUST believe that the government owns everything. That is communism.

    To all the commenters who say this is “disrespectful”, why on earth should we respect her? This is a republic, not a monarchy, and politicians do NOT deserve respect unless they EARN it. Clarke has not. She is a communist, and she is an ignoramus, and she is a fool, and only a dishonest person would object to calling her those things.

    She is as stupid as her colleague (also a black Democrat) who worried that Guam would tip over if another naval base is built on one side, and her other colleague (ALSO a black Democrat, ar you seeing a pattern?) who thought Neil Armstrong had planted a flag on Mars.

    Generally, Crownheights.info is the first on the scene to report the news and is a good site for informative articles and entertainment but I must sadly say that the editors of this website were irresponsible to say the least.
    Yes, the Congresswoman definitely misspoke. She is only human and obviously needs to brush up on history. But that doesn’t mean that she or her office don’t do anything for this community. There are many in Crown Heights that were directly helped by her office.
    Articles and comments like these don’t help anyone and definitely don’t give anyone any incentive to help in the future.

    Yes. And she has plenty of company in the House. One colleague said that military activity on Guam would cause the island to capsize. One mentioned that the Apollo missions were to Mars. One perpetuated the old wives tale that unintended pregnancies cannot result from violent rape because the body can “shut the whole thing down”. There are plenty of other such examples to go around. Perhaps we are to blame ourselves because we keep sending these clowns back to Washington better than 90% of the time.
