From Days Gone By: Chabad Outreach Lauded in 1953
CrownHeights.info has obtained a copy of an article which appeared in a now-defunct magazine called The Jewish Forum back in 1953. The article, printed in honor of Yud Tes Kislev, covers the outreach work of Chabad in France in its early years, and profiles Rabbi Binyomin Gorodetzky, the personal representative of the Frierdiker Rebbe and the Rebbe to France and North Africa.
The article was written by the editor of The Jewish Forum, Charles Raddock. After returning from a two month survey of Europe, he reports on his experience visiting the Jewish community in France.
At the time of its printing, France was experiencing a wave of Sephardic Jewish immigration from the North African countries of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
The article was reviewed before its publication by the Rebbe’s secretariat, which approved of the article and encouraged its publication.
