Menorah Lighting in Civic Square
MISSISSAUGA, Canada — The Chabad Jewish Discovery Centre is welcoming all Mississauga residents to its Hanukkah celebration, as members of the Jewish community light the Menorah in the Civic Square on Dec. 4.
After lighting the first candle at 5:30 p.m., the square will come alive with entertainment. There will also be Hanukkah gifts and traditional foods.
“This year, we are emphasizing acts of goodness and kindness,” said Rabbi Yitzchok Slavin, director of the Chabad Jewish Discovery Centre. “We are asking all of the participants to share the joy by bringing along a non-perishable food item that will be distributed to local charitable organizations to be directed to the needy in Mississauga.”
Hanukkah is highlighted by the kindling of the Menorah, an eight-branch candelabra, each night of the holiday. The celebration also spreads the message that, ultimately, good will prevail over evil, freedom over oppression and light over darkness.
In its Hanukkah outreach campaign, Chabad of Mississauga is joining thousands of Chabad centres around the globe that are staging similar public displays of the Menorah and its symbolic lights. From Australia to Africa, Vancouver to Hong Kong, New York City to Ottawa, many will experience the joy of Hanukkah with Chabad.
