‘Gan Israel’ Camp Season Ends in Estonia
Tallin, Estonia — In Estonia, the ‘Gan Israel’ Camp has finally wrapped up after an eventful season. All day for 20 days, Jewish children and teenagers gathered at the ‘Kanutimaya’ Center for Youth Creativity, located in the very center of town for an entertaining and educational program.
Aged five to thirteen, 50 youngsters benefited from the guidance of Chana Kot and counselors from across Estonia and Israel. Every day, they experienced a virtual trip to a new country to learn about the life and history of Jews in that region, in addition to learning much about the Jewish calendar, holidays and lifestyle.
Of course, participants also had a chance to embark on local adventures too – to the amusement part, swimming pool, bowling lanes, and a candy factory. On the final day, a special picnic took place at a picturesque site, where they also held a Kabalat Shabbat ceremony.
This ‘Gan Israel’ summer experience was made possible thanks to the generosity of Lev and Olga Leviev, the Ohr Avner Foundation, and the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS and Baltic Countries. The Jewish community of Estonia expresses gratitude to Rabbi Avraham Berkowitz and Mikhail Daskovskii, whose support ensured that campers regularly enjoyed delicious and fresh kosher meals throughout the session.
