Melbourne’s Chabad Youth to Purchase Campsite

After years of intensive efforts and rigorous searching, Melbourne’s Chabad Youth is set to purchase their very own campsite. The new campsite, nestled in Victoria’s Great Dividing Range between Mt. Hotham and Mt. Bright, will serve as a multi-purpose facility – a home to both summer and winter camps; grade shabbatons; community retreats; and more.

“This is a very old dream finally coming true,” says Rabbi Moshe Kahn, longstanding Director of Chabad Youth. “We will finally have our own space; a campsite we can call home”.

Chabad Youth is Australia’s largest Jewish youth organization, with programs catering to every need and demographic across the wider Melbourne community. Its camp’s are home to over 2000 campers, making it the largest Jewish camp in the entire Southern Hemisphere.

Their new campsite will allow CGI to continue expanding their activities, drastically enhancing the camp experience.

“Owning our own campsite will change everything,” Kahn explains, as he puts together the final preparations for an upcoming fundraising campaign. “We’ll have a Kosher kitchen – we can set things up the way we want them. We’ll be able to really tailor our facility to best suit our needs.”

Chabad Youth’s new campsite boasts beautifully furnished cabins, an indoor swimming pool, a fully-equipped archery range, indoor basketball court and outdoor sports areas. The campsite will feature a dedicated Shul and learning center, designed especially to best enhance camper’s spiritual experience.

Chabad Youth will be running a fundraising campaign on Monday, December 12, hoping to raise $1 million in 24-hrs. Generous supporters will be matching all donations made on that day, in what will be an all-or-nothing campaign.

“This is an exciting time for our community,” Kahn says. “We hope everyone can get involved, and does what they can to help us reach our goal”.
