The Secret Recipe for World’s Best Challah Bake

From The Wellesley Wicked Local:

Here’s the secret recipe for the best Challah Bake ever. Take 1,000 women and 100 table captains. Add 2,000 pounds of flour, assorted ingredients, an inspirational program, and some spirited dancing. Mix all together and let rise. You just created an unparalleled event of amazing unity and a powerful force of good.

The Boston Mega Challah Bake is coordinated by close to 25 Boston area Chabad Houses. In terms of magnitude, it’s massive and includes women of all Jewish backgrounds. The sheer logistics of this event are mind-boggling. It’s hard to imagine how many volunteers measured out the challah ingredients and arranged the hundreds of spoons, bowls, aprons, baking pans, placements and assorted utensils, for this huge crowd.

According to Geni Bleich co-director of the Wellesley Weston Chabad, one of the organizers of the event, “We must have had over a hundred volunteers coming and going just on the day of the event itself. Even before the event, we saw what unity can accomplish!”

Chaya Lieberman, co-director of the West Hemptead Chabad in New York, who was the guest speaker, spoke about the significance of the mitzvah of Challah that teaches us that “our mother Sarah understood that bread gives us life, but it’s up to us to make that life meaningful.” Each of the women then placed a coin in the bowl on the table for charity.
