Dan Shapiro, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, took part on Wednesday in a Chanukah candle lighting with Chabad Chassidim in Tel Aviv.

Chabad has set up no less than 75 giant menorahs throughout the city of Tel Aviv, including on bridges at the entrances to the city and in all the major neighborhoods. The largest menorah was placed at the Dizengoff Square in the heart of the city.

“The idea of Hanukkah is self-sacrifice and that’s why, when it comes to things involving self-sacrifice we see hundreds of thousands of Jews in Tel Aviv uniting together with the Chanukah lights,” said Rabbi Yosef Gerlitzky, head of Central Chabad Lubavitch in Tel Aviv.
