Chanukah Marked in Tasmania

The second night of Chanuka was celebrated in Tasmania with much fanfare and excitement. The celebrations began with a childrens program followed by public Menorah with over 100 people in attendance.

At the children’s program at the Chabad House, they learned about the miracle of the oil, played fun games, and made a beautiful Menorah out of wood. The program was run by Shaindel Gordon and Yaffa Travitz, who flew in from Melbourne.

Over 100 people showed up for the public Menorah lighting, which was held outside the second oldest Shul in Australia.

Special guests included Mayor Albert van Zetten, Mayor of Launceston, as well as MP Michael Furgerson. The lighting was a tremendous Kiddush Hashem, and was aired on the local radio as well as published in the local newspaper.

Everyone enjoyed doughnuts, live music, and a grand raffle. Many people also took the opportunity to tour the Shul.
