Sandy’s Carnage: Staten Island

One of the places hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy, was Staten Island. With 19 deaths and hundreds of homes destroyed, many people are dislocated and in need of basic human necessities.

Chabad has obtained a centrally located storefront to house the ‘Chabad Hurricane Relief Center.’ The center will serve as a warm spot for anyone to come inside and relax, get a hot drink or snack, recharge devices or receive emotional support.

It will also serve as a drop off location for people to donate items specifically requested by those who sustained tremendous damages to their homes, and devastating losses.

Yesterday, Sunday, there was a huge drive to collect these items from across the spectrum of the community. Items specifically requested include, pillows, blankets, warm clothing and socks, toiletries, water bottles and baby blankets. We will continue to accept these items as long as the needs remain.

The plan for the next couple of days is a ‘Hurricane Relief Mobile’ driving through the affected neighborhoods offering meals, supplies and charging of portable devices.

Should you know someone who needs assistance, or if you are able to help in any way, please contact us.

A website and Facebook page have been started where one can obtain current information and donate to the campaign. Please visit www.chabadrelief.org or www.facebook.com/chabadreliefcenter.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!! EVEN IF THEY JUST DOWN PLAY THE BANQUET AND INSTEAD OF WASTING SO MANY THOUSANDS ON THE HILTON MAKE IT IN CROWN HEIGHTS AND USE ALL THOSE THOUSANDS OF SAVED EXPENSE DOLLARS TO HELP SHLUCHIM WHO LOST EVERYTHING. WHAT A KIDDUSH LUBAVITCH THIS WOULD BE TO THE SUPPORTERS THAT MIGHT COME – IF THE UP COMING STORM ALLOWS. THEY SHOULD SHOW SOME COMPASSION TO ALL THOSE THAT LOST EVERYTHING AND ARE NOW FREEZING AND HOMELESS.
