Chabad Takes 3rd Place at Kosher Chili Cookoff

Hundreds gathered in Houston, Texas last week for the 5th annual Kosher Chili Cookoff where dozens competed for the title of ‘Best Kosher Chili’. Chabad of Sugar Land’s Rabbi Mendel Feigenson took 3rd place.

Rain did not deter the crowd from attending the annual cookoff, which was held at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston and benefitted the Center’s Meals on Wheels program.

37 teams participated in this year’s cook-off. Live performances included the Lanier Middle School Klezmer Band, Joe Buchanan of Congregation Shaar Hashalom, and the Dan Band.

This year’s first place winner went to United Orthodox Synagogues, with Congregation Or Ami coming in 2nd and Chabad of Sugar Land 3rd. The people’s choice award went to Congregation Beth Yeshurun, and Aishel House was awarded for showmanship.

The cook off is in its 5th year in a row, bringing together the Jewish community together for fun and festivities to raise money for non-profits supported by the Houston Jewish Community.
