Jewish Pride Shines at Berlin Shabbaton

Dozens of Berlin Jews, including families, young couples and singles, gathered at the Liebenwalde Hotel to share the joy of keeping Shabbos together on November 7th. Regardless of background, every soul felt he or she was part of a big mishpocha in the midst of the Prussian forest, 60 km outside of Berlin.

Swimming in the pool, dancing with the Kinderlach Band, kosher BBQ, shiurim in three languages and of course joint services were among the highlights of the program.

Rabbi Shmuel Lew, senior Chabad Rabbi from London, impressed the shabbaton guests by sharing his wisdom on the importance of the Kehila, and Rabbi Dov Baitman from Kiev shared some very useful secrets for a happy marriage.

“Not only did I have fun, I also learned a lot this weekend,” said one of the Jewish school students who came to the shabbaton with her mother. “I find it very sad that not all of my family members were here,” she said.

The peculiarity of this shabbaton was that, unlike in previous years, it was held in winter and the summer activities were not available. However, it only fostered the warmer atmosphere inside.

“It was a wonderful experience of being together in love, care and harmony ” noted Leah, an active community member.

The Shabbaton is organized every year by Rebbetzin Leah Teichtal and Rabbi Shmuel Segal of the Jewish Educational Center-Chabad Berlin.
