‘Our Big Kitchen’ Inducted Into Hall of Fame

At a packed function of about 800 people at Sydney’s Dalton House, Our Big Kitchen has been inducted into the Hall of Fame in recognition of its Community Service by Restaurant and Catering Australia.

R&CA is the peak national industry body representing restaurants, cafes and caterers and OBK has won its national Community Service Award for the past three years.

The Award was presented by CEO of the Association John Hart, who saluted the outstanding work of OBK.

According to OBK Director, Rabbi Dr. Dovid Slavin, the award shows the diversity and reach of the restaurant industry and the importance it places in caring for those in need. He accepted the award on behalf of the thousands of people each year supported by the kitchen with a meal.

“In accepting this award we should all be cognizant of our place in feeding and caring for those who go hungry.

“With the support with more than 600 volunteers, we sent out over 50,000 portions of food to the needy last year. I am immensely proud of our team and dedicate this great honour to their hard work and to the wonderful people we have the honor of serving” said Slavin.

There to accept the award on behalf of OBK were founders Rabbi Slavin and his wife Laya, together with General Manager Greg Fisher and his partner Luke Power.

“We have continued to grow the number of participants in our various programs from corporate team building events to school interfaith and nutrition-based programs, all of which has enabled many people to be empowered with the joy of giving whilst at the same time feeding those in need. The programs help support our running costs so that those in need may receive quality meals at no cost, a message understood and greatly appreciated by the RCA.” said Fisher.

“This award is not about giving OBK a pat on the back – it is about getting people focused on community needs and our role in supporting those needs. We are both humbled and proud” said Rabbi Slavin.
