Albany Day School Marches Proudly on Lag Ba’omer

The sun shone beautifully after days of rain, and neighbors along the way cheered on as each class proudly carried its own “Mitzvos on the Go!” banner.

The staging ceremony was addressed by Shliach Rabbi Yisroel Rubin, Assemblyman Jack MacNeny, Assemblyman Bob Riley and Deb Riitano of the neighborhood association. Mayor Gerald Jennings officially proclaimed May 10 as “Lag Ba’omer Neighborhood Day” throughout the City of Albany.

The Albany Falcons marched and drummed in full regalia, escorted by Mounted Police and flashing Official Cars.

The parade ended at the Washington Park amphitheater where all sang the 12 Pesukim and “Bar Yochai,” and enjoyed special hand-decorated Lag Ba’omer cookies with red hearts.

The students enjoyed the playground, relay races and a wheel-barrow race, had lunch and bentched, and viewed the beautiful blossoming tulips. At the big “Moses Fountain” the boys spontaneously began to sing Niggunim, and kept up the spirited Niggun momentum all the way back to school.

the sun came out and shined through the gloomy forecast just as the parade was about to begin (which is why the start of the parade was set-up indoors at first…) it had great vibe and enthusiasm!
