Jews of Western Ukraine Unite to Celebrate Purim
Hundreds of Jews in the western Ukrainian city of Zhitomir gathered to celebrate Purim with Chabad, led by chief rabbi of the city Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm.
The event began with the reading of the Megillah by Rabbi Eliezer Rabinowitz, the head of the Zhitomir Yeshiva, followed by a Purim Spiel performance by the students of the local Or Avner Jewish day school.
After the performance, a lavish Purim feast was served, followed by Joyous singing and dancing to lively Chasidic music.
Over Purim, the students of the Yeshiva went around the city in a ‘Mitzvah Tank,’ spreading the joy of the holiday and helping the Jewish residents of the city with their spiritual or physical needs.
On Sunday evening, the community of Anash gathered at the Rabinowitz home for a Purim Seudah and Farbrengen, which lasted until the early hours of the morning.
