Students Enjoy Miami Torah Expereince

Over 20 Jewish university students from across North America spent part of winter break hitting the books this winter at Miami Torah Experience, a 10-day immersive program under the auspicies of Chabad-Lubavitch of Florida in cooperation with the Chabad on Campus International Foundation.

The Miami Torah Experience is directed by Rabbi Immanuel Storfer, who also is the menhal of Yeshiva Torah Ohr, a full time semester program geared towards college aged students with a limited background in Jewish text based study.

The curriculum included a combination of text-based subjects such as chumash taught by Rabbi Mendy Felig, gemorah taught by Rabbi Yosef Marlow and Yeshiva Torah Ohr’s Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yisroel Geisinsky, and chassidus taught by Rabbis Manis Friedman.

At night, philosophical discussions took place from top lecturers such as Rabbis Manis Friedman, the Executive Director of the Chabad on Campus International Foundation Yossy Gordon, Head Shliach to state of Florida Avrohom Korf, Rabbi Sholom Ber Lipskar, and Miami Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Leibel Schapiro. In addition, participants had the opportunity to go on fun outings such as banana boating, beach volleyball, bowling, a trip to the Florida Everglades alligator swamps, jet skiing, and snorkeling.

Roee Yehezkilof, a business management major at California State University in Northridge heard about the program from his Shliach on campus Rabbi Chaim Shaul Brook. He commented “It was really an inspiring life changing experience as I was able to learn and see how so many concepts in the Torah are relevant to my everyday life”.

After the program concluded, many students expressed interest in returning to study and delve deeper into the fascinating Torah subjects they were introduced to during the break. The spring 2012 semester program at Yeshiva Torah Ohr commenced January 8 and extends until June 21, 2012.
