Yeshiva Torah Ohr of Miami Debuts

This winter, some 25 University students from across America and from international locations such as the Ukraine, Brazil, Venezuela, and Australia participated in the 10 day Miami Torah Experience.

Throughout the 10 day program, students participated in basic text based subjects such as Chumash, Talmud, Halacha, and Chassidus and Jewish philosophy from a variety of guest lecturers including Rabbis Manis Friedman, Leibel Schapiro, Yosef Marlow and Sholom Ber Lipskar.

There was plenty of time for recreational activities such as snorkeling, banana boating, volleyball on the beach, and bowling.

Yeshiva Torah Ohr is an extension of the highly-popular Miami Torah Experience, under the auspices of Lubavitch of Florida in cooperation with the Chabad on Campus International Foundation, and combines a challenging academic curriculum with communal immersion and leisure activities. The current winter/spring semester which began January 5th extends until June 13 201 and is open to male students ages 18-27 with a limited background in formal Jewish studies whor wish to spend a longer period of time delcing into Torah Study. The Director, Rabbi Immanuel Storfer teaches chassidus in the morning and evening and the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yisroel Gesinsky is on hand throughout the day to give students personal attention and ensure they grow in their comprehension of basic Jewish texts.

Classes take place in the Sephardic Jewish Center of North Miami Beach, and students are housed in a nearby home rental which serves as the dormitory.

“I think it’s important to establish a foundation among young people who are interested in learning more about their Judaism,” says Rabbi Yossy Gordon, executive vice president of the Chabad on Campus International Foundation. “The staff really knows how to do this work in a most effective way, and the pleasant environment of Florida is an added incentive.

“The welcoming community and ideal location provides an added level of instruction to students,” added Gordon. “We have all of the ingredients needed for a successful program.”

Full time students are entitled to room and board and can earn college credits for their studies. Generous scholarships are available to many of the applicants.
