200 Celebrate Chanukah at New Jersey Mall
Around 200 people gathered Tuesday evening to celebrate Chanukah, and to kindle the giant 9 Ft. Menorah at the Deptford Mall. The event, sponsored by Chabad of Gloucester County in conjunction with the mall, featured a balloon clown for the kids, music, dancing, and of course the traditional Chanukah foods – delicious latkes and Jelly doughnuts.
The holiday of Chanukah, which commemorates the ancient victory of the Jewish people over religious oppression, is celebrated for 8 days by lighting a Menorah every evening at sundown.
This year, as part of the celebration, Chabad made customized flashlights for each participant.
“The idea of the flashlights is that each and every person must add their little light to the world, this is the message of the Menorah that even a tiny bit of light can dispel much darkness” said Rabbi Avi Richler director of Chabad and organizer of the event.
