Sukkah-on-Wheels Conquers the Streets of Berlin

BERLIN, Germany [CHI] — Throughout the week of Sukkos tourists and locals were greeted with a seemingly strange sight, the local landmarks such as the “Schloss Charlottenburg” and the “Reichstag building” had the small addition of a Sukkah on Wheels!

When they approached and inquired, they were greeted with the traditional “Happy Sukkot” translated into many languages: “Freilische Laubhuttefest”, “Sprasnakam Sukkot” or “Joyeux Souccot” and the got the opportunity to learn about Sukkos and Shake Lulav and Etrog.

One Jewish tourist responded: “I am in shock to see a Sukkah on the streets of Berlin! Where just 70 years ago Hitler’s men reigned!” But the response was quick to come, “He may have been here then, but today, the Jewish pride will prevail!”

Thanks to the presence of the Sukkah-Mobile, hundreds of Jewish people, many of them tourists from Israel, were able to make the blessing on the Lulav, or just have a bite to eat in the Sukkah in the middle of Berlin.

Special thanks to the Talmidim haShluchim, Chaim Rosenstein, Yehoshua Berkowicz, Aaron Rafkin, Elitzafan Drori, Avaraham Dijan, M.M. Romacianeau, and Chabad of Berlin.
