First Chupa after nearly 80 years in Ulyanovsk

ULYANOVSK, Russia [CHI] — This past thursday, the 3rd of Tammuz, Ulyanovsk experienced a historical event! The first Jewish wedding, accompanied by a Chupa, took place. More than 100 people took part in this historical event, as Ulyanovsk did not see anything like this for nearly 80 years.

The Chupa took place on the roof of the tallest building in the city, which hosts a beautiful view of all Ulyanovsk. After the Chupa, the crowd walked behind the bride and groom for 4 blocks till the Jewish Center, where the wedding meal and dancing took place. It was a big kiddush Hashem for all to see a very obvious Jewish bride and groom walking down the main city streets! Onlooker’s were both surprised and extremely happy to see democracy in its works.

May this Chupa be the beginning of many others.
