OMSK, Russia — In relation to the current economic crisis and gradually deteriorating standards of living for a good segment of the population, the Jewish community of Omsk has decided to carry out a campaign aimed at contributing a shipment of new children’s clothing and shoes to needy children. Namely, this donation was directed towards the ‘Penatiy’ Social Service Center for the city’s central administrative district. This organization deals with the poorest people among local residents on a daily basis and its representatives are in a perfect situation to be able to identify those children who are in greatest need of such assistance.

This is not the first time the Jewish community has made donations of new quality items to the center. This fact goes to show that, in addition to regularly taking care of and paying attention to its own members, the local community is also not indifferent to the needs and challenges faced by other needy people in this west Siberian city.

The Center expresses its gratitude to Chief Rabbi of Omsk Osher Krichevsky and the Jewish community of Omsk – a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia. Its statement reads: “I sincerely thank you for your contribution to resolving the socially significant problems of the poor and families with children facing difficult life situations, as well as the care and sincere desire to help people that you have demonstrated”.

According to Rabbi Krichevsky, who also serves as a Chabad Lubavitch emissary to the region, helping the impoverished and those at-risk, regardless of their creed or nationality, is one of the most important commandments of Judaism. Such cooperation is making a significant contribution to the development and supports inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations in the Omsk Region.
