Picture of the Day
Welcome to Chabad of Antarctica the (future) home of Chabad on the seventh continent. Expeditionist and banking executive Scott Shay wrote the on his Instagram the reason he decided to create this banner, and how the Kinus Hashluchim was his inspiration.
“I have wanted to travel to Antarctica for three decades and finally made it. In the weeks before the trip did a lot of thinking about multi decade missions partially inspired by my attending the “Kinus Hashluchim” Chabad’s annual conference for its many emissaries who oftimes are sent to inhospitable venues accross the planet. The one continent that doesn’t have a Chabad House is both the most inhospitable and beautiful – Antarctica – which could have been the inspiration behind the idea of a Star Trek Class L planet. (Indeed, I hope that Antarctica remains almost devoid of humans and retains its unspoiled state of nature which vitally nurtures the rest of the planet). As a tribute to Chabad at this time of Chanukah and its particularly fiery activities during the Jewish month of Kislev, I created a banner to honor Chabad on my journey to the 7th Continent with a nod to its headquarters location. (We were actually about 300 miles from the coordinates on the banner as the actual place is a bitterly cold desert). As my daughters and unfurled the banner, our fellow polar expeditionists asked many questions about Chabad and Chanukah making me feel, like an honorary emissary for the day!”
