From Days Gone By: Lindsay for Mayor
Lubavitchers and African-Americans join together in Crown Heights to campaign for the election of John Lindsey, who served as mayor of New York City from 1966 through 1973. Can you identify anyone in the photo and what year it was taken?

What are you talking about? NYC never has elections in even numbered years. Lindsay was elected in 1965, and served from ’66 through ’73, as the article says. He was a disaster, but his opponent, Beame, would have been at least as bad and probably worse, as he showed when he finally got his chance in ’74. The only good candidate in ’65 was Buckley, who had no chance of winning. The Rebbe supported Lindsay, I suppose because he thought Beame would be worse.
