Picture of the Day: Tzfatim Reenact Mayim Shelanu

The ‘Tzfati’ members of kvutzeh have lately taken to reenacting an increasing number of routine occurrences from the later years of the Rebbe’s life. In this photo, they mimic the drawing of ‘Mayim Shelanu’ for the baking of Matzah, which the Rebbe began to perform on the porch of 770 in the late ’80s, as can be seen in this video.

    it is very interesting how they do things and strongly feel the way they do/did it is the way the rebbe did it .. i will not say all they do is wrong way though definitely in my opinion most is wrong

    During the seder in the frierdike Rebbe apt, even after Yud Shvat they always placed a kayra for the Rebbe. On yom-tov they kept 2 chalas in his place. Also they called up the Rebbe Rayats for an aliya on Simchas Torah every year Even Reb Yoel didn’t complain

    They should have asked # 2 for his haskama.

    If all they did was to copy the Rebbe’s actions, most folk would not have an issue with it. It is the idea that they act as if the Rebbe were still physically there, that makes them appear insane.

    Who told you that they set Chalas for the Frierdiker Rebbe? This is one big lie! They only set the chair at the Rebbe’s place without any food whatsoever, I was there many times during the Seder and other meals, and I saw the Frierdiker Rebbe’s place empty, but no one would make a mockery of the Frierdiker Rebbe by putting food by his place. Absolute rubbish.

But Avrohom and Yitzchok and Moshe Rabbenu and Ezra and Rebbi and the Rambam and the Ari Zal and the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe and the Frierdiker Rebbe all died, so what makes you think our Rebbe didn’t? What makes you think he joined the unique group of Yaacov and Dovid?

    about the Tzfatim: for all the violence they have started, they are mostly posul themselves, how can they do that.
    They are mepasul or they are hallucinating.
    Fighting and violence is an automatice posulus.

    To the idiot milhouse It is well known about the Rebbeim & even before did you ever here of the Mishnah? the gemarah? ever read about Rabbi Yehuda Hanasi? How about what the Friedike Rebbe wrote in Hakriah vehakedushah about his father The Rebbe Rashab? or how about the Rebbe’s own words on Moishe Lo Meis or where there is emes there can’t be mais? Tzfatim may not be perfect or even far from it butthat doesn’t make them crazy or all bad!!! How about we all stop the bickering the Mesira the incitement & Do what the Rebbe wants? Bring Moshiach!! There are much more important things to focus on then bachurim drawing Mayim Shelanu!! stop acting like babies & children grow up!!!

    Pray tell, how is this sort of “reenactment” any less silly and absurd than some of the things that “normal” chassidim do? Like reading “the Rebbe’s letter” from a sefer at simchas, insisting that everyone stand as though the letter being read was sent specifically for that occasion (it is really text borrowed from a letter sent decades ago). Or still referring to the Rebbe as “Nasi Doreinu”, as if people born in the early Yuds are of the same generation as their great-grandchildren being born today.

    If the Rebbe is alive then all our objections are moot. Else we need to do some serious “bedikas p’nim” and start taking the possibility of a Dor Sh’mini seriously.

    Why would this turn them off any more then opening the door for Eliyahu by the seder??

    Millhouse, we do many things “zecher l’mikdosh” – as a re-enactment of yesteryear! Why should they not make these “re-enactments” as a “zecher” to our glory days – especially for the benefit of the young whose eyes never saw and ears never heard???? (And no, playing a video is not just as good – as it wouldn’t be enough to accomplish zecher l’mikdash either).

    To #31, where does is say who is and who is not a Lubavitcher??? How do you know if the Rebbe is mugbal or not? Who told you? Don’t quote me sichos from 5711, because the Rebbe was talking about the Frierdiker Rebbe not himself. You cannot prove anything with certainty, especially something that you don’t really know anything about as you are not a tzadik (assume), thus we should probably refrain form calling people “not a lubavitcher at alllll!”

    Perhaps, had you said someone who does not learn Rambam is not a Lubavitcher, I may agree as it is a takana of the Rebbe.

    I’m sad to write this but it is things like this that make me proud, happy and thankful to the Rebbe for sending me on Shlichus to Lakewood, NJ.

    The infighting, mis(s)-understanding, mis(s)-reading, o-mis(s)-sion, are all signs that you guys are far too involved with looking at the wrong things.

    I have B“H had very good Mazel in this city of Litvish torah. I’ve had many question much of what Chabad does, but I have not yet lost an argument when I propose ”meet me in any Bais Medrash of your choice and lets look into the Sfarim. Gemora, Rambam, Shulchan Aaruch. The Rebbe said that he is a Shulchan Aruch yid. whether I personally think swinging a chicken over my head nine times erev Yom Kippur or spending a month cleaning my home out of all the stuff I got the day before (Purim) or I think that re-enacting the living in Succos of our alter alter alter zeidies (times about 120) [120*30=3600] or shechting a korbon Pesach and eating motzoh for a week as those same alter zeides did…..

    [do I see a pattern here. QUICK: all the really frum yidden are the really really frum sfatim re-enacting things from thousands of years ago, not just semi-recent]

    say whatever you want is is the serious tzfatim who really care what the rebbe said i so far havent seen a nonmeshichist actively caring what the rebbe said they might be wrong about chai vekayam but at least they do mostly what the rebbe wants
