the rabbi looks like a hecht, so maybe it’s something to do with released time?

His son levi looks like him
    The Rebbas chosid

  • Don-t know the occasion, but...

I can read two words on the cake – Tzaischem L’Shalom. And that is Rabbi JJ Hecht.

  • Hechts are the real deal

Notice the way his jacket is buttoned, right over left. A true chossid.

Are you all so sure that is JJ Hecht?
Hecht wore a hamburg hat not a fedora.
He is defintaely one of the Hects but I am not sure which one

Although I think they are all dressed very nicely

If someone dressed like that today it would be criticized

The words on the top left of the cake are “Chief Rabbi.” I can’t read what’s on the top right, but then I wonder: maybe it’s not Rabbi J.J. a“h, but his brother R. Avraham (yibadel l’chaim tovim), and this picture would be from when he was appointed rabbi of Cong. Shaare Tzion in the ’50s.

(Also, the middle word in the line below ”Tzeischem L’Shalom“ seems to be ”Religious.” So the kids in the picture may have been Released Time students.)

  • fond memories

i knew jj hecht when he was a choson before he grew his beard . this was the way he looked like in the fifties , it sure is him . always dynamic . one of the great askanim.

Its a man that makes the clothes, and Rav JJ Hecht ZT”L lived up to his looks.
His son is my Mashpia, and I’m honored as such.

so that help support the fact that this is JJ and not Avrom.
