Well we all know he was close to Putin, the KGB agent. Well now Russia sells weapons to Syria and Iran. Thank you Rabbi Lazar for befriending an enemy to Israel and the free world.

Joshua Gothelf, nice to see you are out there
to negative joshua
joshua it sure looks like you have no idea of what you are talking about…. sadly its ppl like you that use such friendly sites to spew your nasty venom!!! go back to your hole
Goth-elf the fool.
JG is another Jewish liberal socialist dallard who likes to present his self proclaimed rightchesness via loud mottos and irresponsible statements.
What you advise BL to do is to sacrifice a pornoso of 300K+ Jews of Russia on a altar of A short-term political gain. That is extremely irresponsible, especially given the fact that under Putin, the Jewish communities of Russia enjoyed unprecedented growth.
And who is Putin’s opposition anyway? Political clowns and liberal antisemits.
Genug shoyn
Joshua is 100% correct. This rav mi-taam is an embarrassment to Chabad. He is a court Jew and a fig leaf for an evil dictator who is one step above his buddies Ahmadinejad and Chavez.
Putin’s opposition would be about in line with the US Republican Party as it once was; supporting of real free enterprise, pro-Israel, and far from anti-Semitic.
The rav mi-taam endangers Jews in exchange for his own advancement and the advancement of his cronies who set up an organization against the Rebbe’s will (after 27 Adar when they could get away with it). It is time for any shaliach worthy of the name in the CIS to do what Kazakhstan and Ekaterinburg did and break away from the evil empire in Moscow before it is too late.
Genug shoyn
As for Putin, why would he choose a rav mi-taam who:
-Speaks Russian with a horrendous accent
-Looks just like every anti-Semite’s caricature of a Jew?
It is very simple. The Jewish oligarchs can unite to put up a real challenge to Putin at any moment. The reason they don’t is fear, but when they see they have more to fear from angry people who are tired of Putin, they will do what the robber barons in the US did and protect their own interests by helping promote democracy (The present opposition that ran in this last election is indeed a joke; the Communists get votes only from the oldest and the poorest, and the oldest will be dead before the next election given Russia’s life expectancy.)
If the average Ivan in impoverished rural Russia, who drank anti-Semitism with his mother’s vodka-laden milk, sees this rav mi-taam, who does appear on Russian TV, as an example of a Jew, he can be persuaded by government propaganda to see Putin (himself a very inadequate looking scrawny little fellow) as the great Russian hero, defending the Motherland against the Jews.
All it takes is a drop in oil prices for all of Russia to hit crisis. Alternately, Putin won’t last after this term. When that happens, and it better happen for all of us, the govno will hit the fan for the rav mi-taam and his cronies. The rest of Chabad better get out of the way long before that happens.
We were always above politics; unfortunately our own internal politics in the nun years allowed this rav mi-taam to gain power despite many warnings from other, more mekushardige shluchim who unfortunately were too busy with their own fights. The rav mi-taam then cemented his position by selling the Chabad yerusha for a pot of lentils.
shlomo as always with bad English
STUPID AMERICANS! WHAT MATTER THAT PUTIN WIN? 17 MILLION’S RUSSIAN VOTE FOR ZYUGANOV, FOR COMMUNIST. RUSSIA WILL NEVER CHANGE. AND ALWAYS WILL BE DANGEROUS.
Maybe he can call his friends again!
OMG Josh Gothelf is alive???
JG
It’s funny that this is not the only occasion where Chabad has fraternized with people who very different ideologies than that of the Jewish people.
For “temporary political gain” we kiss the feet of liberals like
Hillary Clinton who believes that Palestine is just as legitimate as Israel; Michael Bloomberg who would like to take away all guns off the streets, tearing up the 2nd amendment, leaving only criminals to possess them, and the good citizens left without defense; Chabad made Larry King a superstar at the Chabad Telethon, a man who married I don’t know how many shikses, and is proud of it.
The list goes on and on.
It is politicians like Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney, or almost any religious Christian that Chabad should have ties to. They are the ones who care for the existence of Israel and the Jewish People. They stand for religious freedom in this country not the absence of it.
It is radio personalities like Glenn Beck( who I am happy Chabad finally invited to speak) or Mark Levine who defend Israel till their last breath.
Chabad should affiliate with itself with people that have the same moral values and expand the freedoms in this country. They should not sell out to publicize the franchise.
Genug shoyn
There is a big difference between being on good terms with everyone in a democracy and lying in bed with dictators. If one more Jew pays attention to the Telethon because of Larry King’s popularity, let it be.
The rav mi-taam and his cronies, who were at one time removed from being official Chabad shluchim (the only 100% true and authentic representative of the Rebbe in Moscow even today is Reb Yitzchok Kogan, who is independent and has his own very successful shul), are in bed with Homon.
The others are just doing what has to be done in this imperfect world. Chabad in Washington DC works with whoever is in office in order to advance Jewish interests and it is apolitical. The rav mi-taam in Russia is in essence an employee of and spokesman for the Putin regime.
JAG
So three things I’ve learned here. One good, two not so great.
Call my friends. That’s good. Thank you.
The other two:
1. The ends justify the means. Putin allows Chabad to build shuls and allow Jews to earn some money in exchange for the destruction of Israel. Good plan. Or in the case of America support politicians who oppose bans on partial birth abortions and support same gender marriage or try to shut down religious freedoms or believe in printing money till the economic system collapses and in return we receive government vouchers and handouts for the Yeshivas.
2. You are a liberal socialist for opposing a Rabbi supporting an Ex-KGB agent from a “former communist” regime.
are you all nuts?
Who do you think you are talking like that about one of the biggest chassidim of our times? One of the most pnimiyusidke shluchim around?
Do you know even a drop of what Rabbi Lazar has done for the millions of Jews who live in Russia and out of Russia?
Do you have any idea of what this chossid does on a daily basis that you give yourself a right to bash him up so quickly?
Sit down, do some research, talk with people who know what’s really going on, and you’ll get a whole different picture…
JG
I never said he is a bad person. G-d forbid. I know he has done lots of good for the Jews in Russia and has brought Russian Jewry back from the dead. For this the One Above is proud of him. However, this is no excuse to affiliate with those who go against the Jewish value system. If you believe Hashem will help as long as you have good intentions, there is no need to be in bed with an obviously evil man such as Putin. It is wrong to think this is the only option, and a huge lacking of emunah in Hashem and the Rebbe’s Koach Hameshaleach. You will get to the same point without having to sell your soul to do it. This is true of any situation in life, whether as a shliach or an average everyday person. Take the long short path, not the short long path.
And do not be a sycophant zombie to everything shluchim do. They are only men. Always question authority, no matter how high in status a person is, for they are only men. There is only one authority that we do not question. I am sure you know Who that is.
Genug shoyn
Yawn. Again, the Chabad shluchim in the US are NOT supporting any politicians the way this rav mi-taam is supporting (and being supported by) Putin.
There is a democratic process in the US. Politicians and parties come and go, and Jews need to live with this.
There is NO democratic process in Russia at present. The dictator of Russia has bought himself a rav mi-taam who does not say a word when his boss helps to destroy Jews living abroad. On the other hand, when his boss thought the rav mi-taam could be of assistance in various inyonim that help Russia at the expense of Jews, he did not hesitate to have the rav mi-taam contact politicians in EY.
In other dictatorships, Chabad keeps a low profile or just stays out of trouble and gets respect. Look at the comments on another frum site for the picture of the rav mi-taam and his boss and you can see how Jews think of him.
The Yevsektzia did not last. This, too, shall pass.
just wondering
who did he vote for?
