Picture of the Day: New Sign for Shain Shul

Shain Shul, led for decades by veteran Mohel Rabbi Eliyahu Shain, has always had an unassuming, easy-to-miss facade in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Kingston Ave. No longer.

Workers have erected beautiful gold lettering in both Hebrew and English, proclaiming to all passersby the name of the “heimishe shteibel” within.

I like going there Friday night in the summer……. the congregants get the Lecha Dodi over within 5 min. No big singing, no dancing around the bima, “chik-chak” out and straight to the meal.

It should be “Shain’s Shul,” not “Shain Shul.” I hate it when signs are misspelled.

I only have the fondest memories of this amazing Shteeble in Crown heights my uncle Davens there 20 years and my father 10

  • 770

why ?? who is paying for that job ?? 1st must clean your shul inside and outside ??

And for those who are to young to remember, it was originally קהל ייטב לב ד’סאטמאר.

Very few Kingston addresses are “clean.” The alleys are full of garbage. The worst shande is the piles and piles of smelly garbage that sits in front of 770, along with the “merchants” hawking their wares and of course the shnorrers, especially during Elul and Tishre when I assume, these people need to make their plane fare back to Israel.

Can’t this neighborhood try to be more dignified as befits the Rebbe’s schuna?

The sign was written as the shul is called by it`s misspalilim. When was the last time you called 770 by it`s official name????

  • Proud Lubavitcher

Barouch Hashem the time came that positve news is being published. I am proud to live in the Rebbes Shachuna. I hope the other shuls follow what Shains Shul and Bais Binyomin started. The shuls need to be proud and put their names on their buildings.Go try to find Chsav Sofer. Good luck.
