Picture of the Day! Nachman Holtzberg Back in 770

A reader sent us this picture of Rabbi Nachman Holtzberg, who recently announced his moving on Shlichus to Mumbai, where his son Rabbi Gabi and Rivky Holtzberg HYD were Shluchim.

Rabbi Nachman and his wife Frieda set off on this Shlichus after receiving the blessings of Rabbi Elyashav and other Litvish Gedolim.

In a phone conversation inquiring as to why he is back in town Rabbi Holtzberg said “right now I am not giving any information” and refused to comment further.

    to the first 2 comments; do you have a heart? What kind of person are you? I may not agree with Rabbi Nachman Holtzberg either, but recognize the man lost a son and daughter in-law in a brutal fashion while the world watched helplessly. Who are you to judge him? His BLOOD is in Mumbai not yours, mine or anyone that works at Merkos.

    I posted the 1st comment. Notice how I didn’t take any sides, nor mentioned Rabbi Holtzberg’s name. My comment was purely on the idea of Rav Elyashav sending shluchim (which, if you know his history and opinions on Chabad, is quite interesting), along with a bad joke about corporate Chabad and trademark craziness (see current Facebook trademark lawsuits).

    Try not to see the bad in everything and the world will be a much better place!

    THIS IS SO SAD!

    The man is grieving. This is how he needs to express himself. It is his right. I am sure he consulted the Litvishe Gedolim regarding ‘rights’ to the Chabad House and the shlichus al pi halacha. Assuming that is right, how can they, who have no understanding of the concept of shlichus and who have not heard the other side – pasken like that?

    My heart goes out to the man 100%. But if he is doing this with the backing of Litvisher Gedolim who are clueless as to the ins and outs, then it is they who bear ultimate responsibility for the chilul Hashem!

    Who is this snaggy Rabbi? And how did HE get Rabbi Nachman to move out on Shlichus? Whats going on? whats going on with Lubavitch? Does Harav Moshe Kotlarsky allow REb Nachman to move out there under Merkos?

    If you are Lubavitch, which is certainly shayach that that’s not the case, then you have no heart even it’s true what you’re saying. Not every person who has tzoros is a saint, but he fathered a son that died in the same manner as Rabbi Akiva died and ought to be immune from being the recipient of such attacks. If he is indeed acting inappropriately, I’m sure leadership can deal with it quietly behind the scenes. You are not helping defuse the situation.

    Since this will all be coming out soon anyway – I am going to let the “cat-out-of-the-bag”.

    Holtzberg went to kotlarsky and asked to become the shluchim to Mumbai – to take over for his son Gabi HY“D. Kotlarsky refused on account of A.-He already had another guy in mind, and B.-He told holtzberg there are ”security“ issues that prevent him from becoming the shaliach in mumbai. Holtzberg then told kotlarsky that he is going anyway – to which kotlarsky countered with a threat of cutting off all funding to moishe and not giving him a single cent toward the costs of rebuilding, operating etc. etc.
    Holtzberg then went to get some support and funding from other ”gedoilim” – who, very generously pledged him their full backing for this project. Now, kotlarsky has a BIG problem – and his name is Nachman Holtzberg & Co.
    Holtzberg is not trying to fight with the Rebbe or Merkos – he just wants to rebuild and re-create the Chabad House his son was murdered for. Kotlarsky raked in millions upon millions just for the mumbai project – he does not want to give up his piece of the pie. Plain and simple.

    It is very possible he wen to Rav Elyashiv, does that mean his going on a Litvish Shlichus?

    To all commentators, just keep in mind that whoever “wrote up” this news item, had written in with the full knowledge and intent that they will write it up with the “litvish” curve, thus provoking the negative comments.

    It is an opinion-ed piece not an objective news reporting!

    to comment #10 as a real gezha person I also have my miss-taste when it comes to litvaks, but don’t be foolish they also have brains, and if they understand something is muter or osur al pi halocho they may be correct, the fact that they are not Lubavitchers makes it even better, because they are not Negeia bedovor, the whole idea of head shliach, merkaz etc, although a good system, which maybe the rebbe himself set up, is only as good as far as the basic shulchun oruch goes, if somethink basic does not comply with halocho, then we do not paskin from Lekutei Sichos or from a gute chasidishe vort, or balebateshke seichel but only from Halocho.

    I too am conused. This is one of the most bizare articles that I have ever come across. Seriously. They got the blessings of Litvishe Gedolim? Since when are “other” Gedolim and Rabbonim (no disrepect intended) involved in appointing Shluchim.
    In no way am I going to belittle their pain, but I honestly believe they are milking it.

    There are so many great Chabad shluchim in India & many other countries. The Rebbe MHM said that all Jews are shluchim. You don’t need any permission, as we SEE throughout the world, that whoever takes on the shlichus, & does the MHM shlichus is a shliach. What kind of chillul is there in going on shlichus??
    If Nachman wants to go on shlichus, that’s his choice. Where he goes, that’s up to him. In fact, that’s what the Rebbe MHM told
    me about my shlichus. The Rebbe MHM, HE asked me to do this schlichus. No organization, inc., etc. HE told me what HE wanted me to do. HE made it very clear to me that NO ONE can tell me where to go, or what to do, because they would just be in my way. Why are people so misinformed & mixed up about shlichus? I was at a farbrengen, of elder chassidim, many years ago. They were discussing the saying, “Darf shmeisen de ferd biz er iz ois ferd”. (You must whip the horse until he is no longer a horse) I was sitting in the back & they asked me to come & explain & discuss this saying, as I have been a race horse trainer for many years. I told them that there is another version & you need both sayings. The other saying, “ Darf shmeisen de ferd biz az ere faist ere iz a FERD”. (You must whip the horse until he knows he is a HORSE) If he does not know he is a ferd, you can whip him & whip him. He will not change because he doesn’t recognize he’s a ferd. The Rebbe MHM said, “ They desperately need a trainer”. As the saying goes, “ A word to the wise is sufficient”. Hatzlachah Rabbah.

    Crownheights.info…if Rabbi Holtzberg was moving on shlichus, than why didn’t you put in big words “NEW SHLUCHIM TO MUMBAI”? It seems like you were only trying to trigger more sinas chinam in the community and provoke more loshon harah.

    Who says chabad is better than litvish? Believe me, after everything the Holtzberg’s had been though with Merkoz, it’s clear who is a better Jew.

    Your site is slowing losing readers and you don’t have much to write about that interests your readers besides for loshon harah and rechilus. Guess what? You will be punished for this. Maybe not in the world, but forsure in the next.

    Shoulders in the army die everyday, we don’t see their parents demanding a room in the White House.

    Since when does a father inherit a job of a son. If someone was hired as a CEO of a company and then dies or gets killed his father does not take his place and even his son.

    The building belongs to Aguch/Mekaz, they sent a CEO/Shliach to manage/run he place, sadly he was killed, the company send whom ever they want to replace him, it is not the families business what goes on there.

    All hose bleeding heart liberals feeling bad for “the poor father who lost his son”..
    1. Nu, go help him, send him a check, give him a hug.

    2. Holtzberg made more then enough money off the tragic death of his son. He was told the party is over, but hes blinded by money and won’t let go.

    3. What Holtzberg is doing has nothig to do with his son nor grand son, h is doing this to fill his wn big pockets. His grandson Moshie (money wise) will do just fine.

    How many of us living fathers and mothers can say that financially by kids are going to be fine for the rest of their lives?
    Not to many of us.

    where is Rabbi Kotlarsky now? He promised to rebuild the nicest Chabad House in Mumbai, did that happen yet? and didnt a shliach just move to mumbai? Rabbi Kotlarsky gave us the strength and inspiration after the horrific terror attacks now please Reb Moshe build Mumbai back to its full splendor as you promised.
