I don’t know the identity of those in the picture. However, the Chassidim who were in France during that time period who were in the DP Camps who were either Holocaust survivors or Gulag survivors, were people who had tremendous Mesiras Nefesh in Russia for the Rebbe and Yiddishkeit. They also displayed Ahavas Yisrael to fellow Yidden, giving up their false passports to others to escape the iron curtain, or were involved in these forgeries to save Yidden. These Chassidim are part of the “Yemei Bereishis” of Chabad today, and serve as a role model and pride of a true Chossid.
BTW – Don’t worry about your hangup, if you become / remain mekushar to the Rebbe and all his directives, then you just as much “geshe” in His eyes as any other Chossid.
