Darchai Menachem Receives New Mesivta Building as Gift from Local Family

Darchai Menachem has received a new dedicated building for its Mesivta at 432 East 92nd Street, gifted by an anonymous local family in recognition and appreciation of the yeshiva’s work on behalf of the children of the community.

By hashgacha protis, the building was gifted on Gimmel Tammuz — the same day, fifteen years earlier, that Darchai Menachem acquired its Crown Heights school building at 432 Rutland Road.

For the hanhala, the timing was deeply moving: two buildings, fifteen years apart, both carrying the address number 432, and both becoming part of Darchai Menachem’s growth on Gimmel Tammuz.

“At a time when Darchai Menachem is entering its next chapter, it is impossible not to see the hashgacha protis,” said Rabbi Eyal Bension, Dean of Darchai Menachem. “Gimmel Tammuz is a day when every chossid reflects on the Rebbe’s shlichus and the responsibility to move forward with more strength, more commitment, and more achrayus. For both of these milestones to come together on this day, fifteen years apart, is incredibly powerful.”

The local family, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that the gift was made in honor of the devoted staff and talmidim of Darchai Menachem, and in recognition of the yeshiva’s mission and the opportunities it continues to provide for its talmidim and for the community.

Those close to the gift said the family was especially moved by the atmosphere inside Darchai Menachem: the warmth of the rabbeim, teachers, and staff, the personal attention given to each talmid, and the way the yeshiva combines strong expectations with a loving, supportive environment. They saw boys who looked happy, engaged, and proud — learning in a way that was real, meaningful, and alive.

The new building will serve as a dedicated home for Mesivta Darchai Menachem, giving the bochurim proper space of their own while also creating much-needed room for the elementary division in the main school building.

For the Mesivta, the new building comes at an especially meaningful moment. Darchai Menachem has continued to develop as a strong option for regular bochurim who thrive in a smaller, warmer, more personalized yeshiva environment. For some bochurim, a full day built only around academic, text-based learning does not give them enough opportunities to experience success. At Darchai Menachem, the goal is not to lower expectations, but to broaden the pathways through which a talmid can grow — through learning, davening, structure, Chassidishkeit, accountability, and hands-on opportunities that build confidence and pride.

The family was also deeply moved by the Mesivta’s hands-on mastery program, which reflects that same approach: helping each bochur experience real success, build confidence, and discover his strengths within the framework of a chassidishe yeshiva. Following a successful pilot year in woodworking and culinary arts, the program is expanding to include construction and building trades, electrical, plumbing, low voltage systems, advanced woodworking, culinary arts, and Safrus/STaM.

“At Darchai Menachem, we believe that when a bochur experiences real success, it changes the way he sees himself,” said Rabbi Mendy Vail, Executive Director of Darchai Menachem. “Whether he is learning, davening, building, cooking, or mastering a new skill, the goal is the same — to help him grow into a confident, capable, chassidishe young man.”

Rabbi Eli Sandhaus, principal of the Mesivta, said the additional space will strengthen the Mesivta’s core mission.

“We are a Mesivta,” Rabbi Sandhaus said. “Our bochurim are davening, learning, and growing in Yiddishkeit every day. These hands-on tracks are not a replacement for chinuch — they are part of the chinuch. They help each bochur develop responsibility, discipline, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment.”

The hanhala expressed deep gratitude to the family, whose quiet generosity reflects exceptional vision, humility, and care for the chinuch of every talmid.

“This is not only a building,” Rabbi Vail said. “It is space, dignity, opportunity, and a future for our bochurim. Our entire Darchai Menachem family is deeply grateful, and the impact of this gift will be felt for many years to come.”

With the new building, Darchai Menachem looks forward to continuing its mission of creating a place where every talmid can discover his strengths and experience true hatzlacha.
