CitiBike Rack Installed Across From 770 As The Bike Sharing Program Comes To Crown Heights

by CrownHeights.info

CitiBike, New York City’s bike share program has arrived in Crown Heights with the first of two bike racks installed on Eastern Parkway. The new rack, which can hold more than twenty bikes, is across from 770 on the north side of Eastern Parkway.

The bike sharing service provides residents and affordable way to rent a bike for short periods of time, and with hundreds of locations throughout the city, it was only a matter of time before they arrived in Crown Heights.

According to the map of bike locations, CitiBike plans to install two racks, one on Eastern Parkway and Kingston Ave across the street from 770, and another at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Troy Ave. This will be a big boon for the community.

As CitiBike allows you to borrow the bike from one rack and return it at another, the installation of the racks will provide a new way for many people to commute across Brooklyn and into Manhattan, where previously the options were either the subway or a cab ride.

Based on the sudden addition of many new racks, it would appear that the installations are coming as part of a larger plan to install CitiBike racks in the area North of Eastern Parkway, where more than two dozen racks have been marked as waiting to be installed.

Sure, what’s the big deal? The bikes will benefit way more people than the few parking spots they take away.

They are parking spaces – just for bikes. Instead of servicing just three people’s cars, they will now allow a few dozen people to use the bikes that are parked there. Also, if there are more bikes around, fewer people will need to use their cars.

Oh, right. So families with several kids, ka”h – no problem, just load them all onto a bike, huh? And of course they’ll also b me able to carry a week’s worth of groceries that way. Sure.

Look, “Biker,” maybe you don’t have a family and hence have no clue. Well, do try to get one.
