Young Crown Heightsers Host Patterson Event

New York State Assembly candidate Shirley Patterson was hosted last night by a group of young professionals on a trendy rooftop in Crown Heights.

Some 60 guests mingled over wine, beer and barbecue where they discussed the growing needs of the Jewish community in Crown Heights.

Flanked by Borough President Eric Adams, Senator Jesse Hamilton and City Councilman David Greenfield, Patterson said “I sent my children to private school and know of the high tuition costs. No community should be double taxed. Therefore I support tax credit for private schools.”

Patterson also made it clear that she is a strong supporter of the unique US-Israel relationship, “Israel has the right to defend herself. I will work with local political leaders to support Israel” she told the cheering crowd.

Mr. Adams said that Shirley Patterson would be part of a Brooklyn team that is best equipped to represent the community in Albany. “I look forward to working with her Senator Hamilton to solve the housing crisis in Crown Heights” he said.

Mr. Greenfield explained his strong support for Shirley Patterson, “The bottom line is that this is a race between Shirley Patterson and the WFP candidate. The reality is that no other candidates are in serious contention. If you are going to vote for a Democrat, you want to vote for the Independent Democrat who has a track-record of working with all communities including the Jewish community. Shirley has made it very clear that she support parents who send their children to yeshiva, that she support responsible development and that she supports a strong US-Israel relationship. Shirley is widely admired for her integrity and would make for an outstanding member of the New York State Assembly.”

“I know Shirley’s main Democratic opponent for nearly a year now, since we both serve on the Community Board 9 together, and I can tell you that she is strongly opposed to rezoning our neighborhoods to allow Frum families to expand their homes. Shirley Patterson had pledged to work with us to accommodate all of our community’s needs” Avi Leshes told CrownHeights.info after the event.

Mr. Hamilton spoke about his upcoming trip to Israel and recalled what a wonderful time he had at the Kinus Hashluchim. “As my fellow district leader for the 43rd assembly district we worked to meet the needs of the residents of crowns heights. If elected as our next assembly member, Shirley will fight to bring resources and funding back to our district” he said.

Yaacov Behrman told CrownHeights.info “if you plan on voting for Mendy [Raitport] because the establishment or [Chanina] Sperlin said so, I respect that. But this race is not about the short term. There is the potential of serious consequences for the community if the wrong democrat is elected. This is why I will be voting for Patterson on Tuesday.”

Elections take place on Tuesday, May 5th, and poll sites open as early as 6:00am and close as late as 9:00pm. Click Here to search for your poll site and voting times.

  • Shirley has been an advocate for Crown Heights from Day One

As was said in a previous comment, to get important bills like tuition tax credits passed, you need to be in the majority, which for the NYS Assembly is Democrat.

That said, Shirley Patterson has been serving the general Crown Heights Community for years. Briefly she is currently the female District leader for ten years, has served seven years on the School Board for District 17 – a district responsible for the education of 26,000 young people. She was active on PTA boards when her children were in school.

And most notable,In advocating for the Jewish community she served as Chair on Neighborhood Advisory Board 9 for six years where she consistently supported by voting for proposals for both Bais Rivka and the Crown Heights Jewish Community which brought in tens of thousands of dollars.

Of all the democratic candidates, Shirley is the most conservative, experienced and already been there for the Jewish Community. Simply said, Shirley does not need on the job training. She’s a proven successful advocate for ALL the People of Crown Heights.

  • Sruly Clapman.

No politcian will have hard feelings if a Lubaivtcher votes for his local Chabad store owner. They actually thnk there is something majorly wrong with you, when you endorse them.

The classy thing to have done was to not support Shirley, and if she wins you tell her will support you in a year from now for the regular election.

Now we have Hikind Clowning around and BBQ’s on roofs. What a bunch of clowns.

  • Chaim

Yarn… What has any of these individuals pictured above done to help anybody (day to day) in Crown Heights?

Why is this party important to everyday Crown Heightsers (hard working family men)?

  • I want a candidate

who supports crime prevention, even if that means stop and frisk. Even if it means certain communities will have higher arrests. I want a candidate who makes sure a teenage thug who assaults someone will have to do serious community service.

  • big government

Shirley is a very good candidate but we have 2 crown heights residents on the ballot so im going with our own unzere

  • thanks we need young blood

Look at the old blood fighting no more legal Vaad hakahaol no elections in years. No rabbonim 300000000000k spent on a zabla with no resulation.

Zaki who is missing for years… Comes out of hibernation to endorce raitport …

We need young guys like yaackov birman and his group

    Chani

    • Chaim

There is much truth to your words. However, my vote for Raitport has nothing to do with irrelevant Zaki and co.
My vote for Raiport is NOT a vote for Zaki, CHJCC etc… MY vote for Raitport is, just that, a vote for Raitport.

I wasn’t sitting around, waiting for irrelevant entities to make endorsements.

I also don’t need Yaacov Behrman (as great as guy he is) and friends, to tell me who to vote for.

What does Yaacov and Friends do day to day to assist those in need?

    • Say WHAT????

Chani, if you were more educated & could express yourself coherently & spell correctly, maybe some people would take note of your words. However, your drivel is incomprehensible. And so is my answer – to you, anyway. I really hope you are not a graduate of Bais Rivkah.

    • to Say WHAT

You are a real dork. First of all it’s Chaim not Chani. Secondly, the post was very coherent. Just because you may not agree it does not mean it’s drivel. Last but not least, you jump to conclusions and don’t have any reading comprehension, so I really hope you are not a graduate of Oholi Toireh.

  • yakov

Patterson is endorsed by the UFT how can she support vouchers, people think and vote Mendy not this lier.

  • Where is the achdus in the shchunah?

    1. A Lubavitcher chossid is running. period
    2. We have to deal with the here and now, Reb’ Mendy is the candidate – elect him, and deal with if he can win again later!
    3. I’m not saying either side represents all of the coomunity, a PAC or some group of youths, however when a brother is running, give him the chance!

  • No way

these guys don’t represent our community. i voted for Mendy reitport and got some of my freinds to vote for him too. we must show these politicians that we do have some power and can bring someone who actually will do what is good for us.
Dov hikind is a good guy but he has no business mixing in here with this local special election.
what did patterson do for affordable housing, crime prvention, lower taxex? nothing, nothing and nothing. give patterson a good scare with a major turnout for Mendy and then you can bet they will listen to us.
    Mendy mit Mazal.
