Hundreds of Crown Heights residents of all ages braved the inclement weather and attended the Lag Ba’omer bonfire on Kingston Avenue, in front of the George Wingate Highschool.

The new police chief of the 71st precinct, officer John Lewis, addressed the crowd. He said that although he got off to a rough start, the police department is here to protect and to serve and that is what he will make sure will happen.

He assured the community that there would be no efforts made to conceal crime – rather the efforts will be concentrated on fighting crime.

The lighting off the bonfire was auctioned off for charity, and was lit. It was followed by joyous dancing.
