Photos: Mumbai Chabad House During Happier Times

BeChadrei Charedim

Just as world Jewry marked three years since the massacre at the Chabad House in Mumbai, which killed six Jews – including Chabad emissaries Gavriel and Rivki Holtzberg HYD, a photo album was discovered documenting the activities of the Chabad House during happier times.

The pictures were taken by Mendy Riesel, who traveled to India with his brother to assist the Shliach and to complete a Minyan for Haredi businessmen who were visiting India for a diamond exhibition.

Riesel took the pictures during a Bar Mitzvah ceremony being held at the Chabad House.

This week, he found the pictures in his e-mail archives, and published them at the BeChadrei Charedim website.

  • how great

i dont know about anyone else but i felt a moment of intense pain seeing these fotos. They will be very important to the families but it was so difficult to look at the Rebbi’s face because the memories are still raw. Maybe one day for his little boy, it will be a great treasure to see how great his father was for so many.

a Bar Mitzvah in Mumbai, India was probably not a regular occurance. These pics show the amazing and critical work the Holtzbergs were doing there, and are so inspiring. Also, its nice and sad (bittersweet) to see how beautiful the Chabad House was in all is glory in contrast to the pics ive seen from after. It was a building filled with such love an ruchnius and light, and its nice to share those memories.
