1st Graders get ‘Hashgocha Protis’ Lesson on Field Trip

When the teachers on the bus felt a sudden jolt and then a thump, thump sound, they knew the Bais Rivka 1st grade annual trip to Green Meadows Farm was not going to be routine.

After pulling off the highway they discovered that the bus had blown a tire, and might be stuck for a while.

Knowing that they have to make the best of things, the teachers discussed what  the girls had learned about Hashgocha Protis and revealing sparks, they recited the 12 Pesukim. In the meantime one of the teachers found a nearby park just around the corner.

The girls were able to run, swing and jump as they waited for a replacement bus to come and take them to the farm. After a while one of the other first grade buses, came back to bring the girls to the park, after dropping its busload of girls off at the farm.

At the farm the girls had a great time with the animals, but when they were finished all the farm activities, they still had quite a wait until a new bus came to pick the girls up.

Once again they put their time to good use, learning some Pirkai Avos, playing games, and listening to stories told by the teachers.

The girls were so proud to teach the woman who works at the farm how to look for kosher ices at the local store, when she kindly volunteered to pick them up for the teachers.

All in all although the day did not go as the teachers had planned, but still the girls came home happy and healthy and having had the chance to truly practice and appreciate what we learn in school, specifically about how not everything that happens is in our plans, but they are in Hashem’s plans.

As a (female) horse owner who rides a lot, I was happy to see the girls getting exposure to the ponies. Usually we only see pictures of the boys doing this. Nice to see that this school has such diverse trips & such remarkable teachers.

While reading this, it crossed my mind that one should really take note of the bus driver, who got no mention in this story. Keeping a vehicle under control with a blow out is not easy.

Kol hakovod to the bus driver, as well as the teachers for taking care of your childern.

While teaching lessons, remembering all those who where there and helped would be nice.
