Oholei Torah Day Camp – Young Spirit, Old Memories

One of the most well known and oldest Lubavitch Day Camps was held here in Crown Heights, known as the Oholei Torah Day Camp.

Today, those who are in Crown Heights can’t help but notice the bright orange t-shirts that the 300 Oholei Torah Campers wear so proudly, but what many may not know is that the Oholei Torah Day Camp has a long, rich history.

Drawing campers from Flatbush, Williamsburg Boro Park, and even as far as the Bronx, Oholei Torah Day camp was one of the only camp options for those young boys who spent their summer in the city. For many of these boys it was their first introduction to world of Lubavitch and the Rebbe.

Under the Oholei Torah Administration, the camp blossomed and brought much nachas to the Rebbe, as is evident in the many answers Reb Michoel Teitelbaum, the co-founder of Oholei Torah, received from the Rebbe regarding the Day Camp.

We are pleased to share with you these pictures and invite you to guess who the counselors and campers are.

An even older day camp that I attended in the early 60’s was run by Lubavitch called Menucha Day Camp. It was housed in a building on Rogers/Bedford Avenue (big monument of Teddy Roosevelt in middel of street.
