Op-Ed: What My School Is Really All About
I am a student in 10th grade. It is irrelevant if I had Facebook or not. I just want to clarify a bit about what my school is all about.
Beis Rivka institutes the guidelines of orthodox Chassidim. They want us to be happy. They want us to have fun. But they also want us to know that we are worth more than what “fun” sounds like. Dressing modestly lets girls’ characters show more than her body, money or any other shallow characteristic. The modesty of Jewish teenagers plays a great role in our society. While in other communities teenage females may have a negative connotation of screaming in the streets at late hours and hanging out all night. We are more than that.
For example, of course everyone knows that girls like to look pretty. Outside of our circles a girl can throw on a pair of flattering jeans and low neck-lined t-shirt. With this, she has created a ‘great’ image for herself; she looks skinny, her body looks nice… that’s all that she is inside! But with our modesty, we express ourselves personality-wise. We are NOT what we wear. We are so much more than that. No one can judge us until they meet us. Get to know our essence and what we stand for.
Don’t get me wrong, we must look beautiful as well! There has to be the focus of, “ this will help my confidence and will make me a better person.” No- we do not walk around all day in potato sacks. Jewish girls hold a great responsibility in our community and have no time for dilly-dally. We have a goal to reach and the soul inside of us is the key to accomplishing that goal. We therefore keep our soul the emphasis of our lives. When a Jewish Girl dresses modestly, and nicely-aware of the latest fads and trends- what she is advertising is not a designer logo or body part, it is that I am better than that. And we are better than that. We are the future of the Jewish people and will build homes filled with Torah and Mitzvos.
That’s what Beis Rivka is all about.
well said
Thanks CMS well done

Brainwashing at its best
MRA

impressed
wow absolutely beautiful. its so true btw. BR is uch an amazing institution
yosher koach!
way to go!!
Face Book
Bais Rivka is a great school! But having Face Book or not is irrelevant to school. It does not interfere with school at all. Its just about like hanging out with friends in all your free time after school. Sometimes its not real and its juts online, and sometimes its real life seeing face to face. Each way makes no difference and should not be interfered with school life. [!]
Standing strong!!!!
Wow I like you alot!!!! This exactly the kind of girl I would want for my son.
What a smart girl you are with a head on your shoulders. I hope many other people out there hear your message loud and clear.

crownheights.info, you are a bit late…
i doubt this nice article about br will go viral like your genius posting of the facebook story.
u caused a tremendous amount of damage and chilul hashem
u should be embarrassed of yourself
but..
yes thats very true but that has nothing to do with the facebook issue and facebook has nothing to do with the tznuis…
R U 4 REAL?
I doubt this was written by a Beis Rivkah school girl. Beis Rivkah is all about the $100 fine.
Teacher in disguise
Blech
yes yes yes
the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. thank you!

you make chinuch sound like its brainwashing. which… is there much of a diff?
#9
its not putting it down.. its emphasizing whats right according to torah law
JUST A TIP YOU NEED TO KNOW IN LIFE
when you tell somebody no Facebook they want it more or if you tell them you must eat chicken to have ice cream there never going to eat chicken b\c there were forced i am just telling you a little of MY story
Shana
I take offence to how you describe people who wear jeans and a low cut shirt. I am on shlichus and most of the people I am involved with fit your description. They are also some of the most temimisdike people I have ever met. Just because they did not grow up they way you and I did does not mean that there is nothing inside. It’s great to sing the praises of Beis Rivkah, but not at the cost of putting other Yidden down.

the writer did NOT mean people like you have on shlichus – that was not her point at all.it seems like you are trying to find something — whatever it may be– to attack her with. and its extremely silly of you to think that – and write… but again here on chi e/o gets to put their opinions…. stupid or not its on.

I wrote it, like I said… I am a tenth trader in br
beautiful!
im a bais rivka student in the 12th grade, and i totally agree with this article. if you like the way it was written or not is not relevant to her point. i truely believe that most of us bais rivka girls agree with her, and no we are NOT BRAINWASHED! we beleive this on our own.
we are chassidim of the rebbe and we stand for something, thats the school we go to and these are the policies!
well written and thanx for speaking out on OUR behalf!

I love facebook
hjkvnke
i agree with #19. just because people have low necklines doesn’t mean anything. they could be in the category of someone who was never taught and doesn’t know any better. they should not be used as a reference or contrast at all
my opinion
I agree with #19! it doesn’t matter what you wear… it matters what type of person you are. Iv’e met some very religious Jews who dress very religiously yet they are the rudest people i’ve ever met or known. and i met many who dont dress tzinus or not religious and are some of the greatest people ive ever known
to #24
so we should be just like them?
great article
obviously when she speaks about low necklines shes not talking about those that dont know and its quite odd that thats what some got. shes obviously refering to those that know but are insecure with themselves so they need to show to feel good. shlucha- i hope youre kidding with that comment
sari
Wow! I love this article! You are the kind of girl I want for my son when he’s ready iyh.
very nice but.....
i wish that was what bais rivka girls are real yall about
it SHOULD b that way!!
hmmmm
i wonder if a girl wrote this or an adult… hmmmmmmm
Issues
Of course it is brainwashing- a spit-back op-ed.Everyone is brainwashed in every society and every school to reinforce the goals etc. There was nothing unique in what this girl wrote. The person who wants someone like this for her son- this is all it takes?Quite amusing. The brainwashing is not the point though. What are u using to do the washing? I agree that FB can be a problem whether it is in or out of school.Girls write rediculous things that could haunt them later on.I think to keep in touch with friends, it is a good thing. But way too much info is out there and I don’t personally think it is that safe. The school has a point. #22 the word truly has no e in it. Maybe BR should concentrate on spelling more.Broad statements about dress-heard it a million times. Some girls do not see it that way.Can u judge them? You can but they have their own minds and don’t follow the laws of the system all the time. So? Be well
so what?

Why do you think this was written by an adult? There is nothing so brilliant in it -so what’s the point?
This school is no different than lots of other girl schools that have religious standards and everyone heard the “beauty on the inside”talk a million times. Not everyone adheres to it no matter what school it is. Some love the limelight and showing off and think if you have it, flaunt it. So what can you do?
FRANK
THE POINT OF THIS GIRLS ARTICLE, WAS JUST TO INFORM THE PUBLIC, THAT FOR ALL THE NEGATIVITY THAT EVERYONE HAD TO SAY ABOUT BEIS RIVKA, THEY DO A GREAT JOB AND THEIR ARE GIRLS WHICH ARE VERY GRATEFUL TO THEM..
AUTHOR
thank you #33
true and false
okay this is truth to the jewish ethics but it is truth girls look better with skirts then pants
but this dosnt sound like a teenage girl wrote this
c.l
go chanale gurevitch
go BRHS!!
she said shes a 10th grader. Whether it is or not who cares what the person wrote it is the truth and you cant get more than the truth
Sarah
The writing comprehension, spelling and general tone in this piece are such that I doubt very much a BR student wrote it. Most BR students read and write at a 4th grade level. (See comment #22)
