People I speak to, feel lost and perplexed.

How can we be left high and dry, years after Gimml Tammuz?

Many of us can remember when, we had a question in our life, we turned to the Rebbe for anything and we got clear guidance that we knew to follow to the letter.

After the stroke, a nod of the head was a yes or a no.

But since the Rebbes passing, many of our communities, are lacking, clear unequivocal guidance and leadership, in our day-to-day life.

Contrary to popular knowledge, The Rebbe DID leave a will, a very public verbal will. I’m not referring to the financial or administrative succession, I’m referring to the will that the Rebbe left us, his Chassidim.

Op-Ed – The Rebbe’s Will

The Mishnah in Avos says “if not for the fear of government, man would swallow his fellow man alive.” It would be every man for him self, survival of the fittest.

Maybe we can say that in a subtle way similar things would happen in a community, in the absence of clear rabbinical authority.

A Rosh Yeshiva would only serve those, who add to his perceived success and reputation.

A person with connections and money, would trample on the less connected and less wealthy.

Every man would be his own rule maker.

There would be inter-organizational power struggles, civil law suits would abound.

Boys and girls would roam, after being rejected by a yeshiva or summer camp.

Cash would be king.

Power would be Yichus.

There would seem to be no communal authority to put things straight and to lay down the law, with consideration to the needs of every person and the benefit of the community as a whole.

All of this would be a direct result of a lack of awareness and implementation of the Rebbe’s public will.

Many if not most of our communal hardships would disappear when the Rebbes public and undeniable will, would be fulfilled.

Some Sichos are well known and get to be repeated over and over, as we are trying to stay connected to the Rebbe.

There is a recorded sicha that I have recently heard on my JEM iPod, a sicha that I never hear or see repeated by anybody.

The Rebbe proclaimed his will in a 38-minute (Sicha) talk, 3 Adar 5748 – Feb 21 1988

The Sicha was recorded and can be heard here

After i did some research to find a printed version of the Sicha, i was told by a reliable source, that despite the Rebbes repeated request to edit this sicha for publication, it has never been printed publicized or translated to date, all we have is the audio.

This talk is packed with deep Torah, yet there is a clear and central point, that the Rebbe himself summarizes and makes the point repeatedly.

Here are some of the quotes I translated to the best of my ability: (learn it yourself)

—————————————————

Sicha Quotes:

“…and the living shall take to heart”, As it says in Seforim that it is a Segula for long life … the story as it was told by the previous Rebbe that they came to the Tzemach Tzedek (3rd Rebbe) and they said to him, let us come and contemplate the accounting of the world, (the last will).
then I wondered, … why is this being told to me? After (that story of he Tzemach Tzedek) they saw that there was long days and good years, and a widening of the Rabbinate and leadership, spreading of the wellsprings (teachings), with all the well known things, it was even know to the non Jews, …

…Being that it was told, it is a sign .. that it should be taken to heart, …though this answer is obvious yet having been expressed verbally, abolishes any doubt, any manner of doubt even the kind of “saffek” (doubt) numerical gematria of “ammallek”… even a doubt in holy matters… … some things stay a doubt as a part of Torah, but the light of Torah illuminates also these doubts.

SO HERE COMES THE CLEAR ANSWER based on the torah of truth the torah of life; that when there is a Beis Din Tzedek (a house of righteous judgment) …,
..when we speak about Lubavitcher Rabbonim, they have both things together,… … Revealed Knowledge of Torah and Hidden knowledge of Torah..

….So it follows that it is understood, that IT GOES OVER, as was already made a start in the matter, that in all matters of this kind, one turns to a Beis din of Chassidishe Rabbonim, and then one does as the senior one of them gives over, although there are such things that on account of modesty or because of other reasons, the issue can’t be discussed with three people, no matter who they may be, so for this there is a solution according to torah that, ones speaks mainly or totally with the “Godol” greater one amongst them or one of them, and he is made to be a messenger, that he should recount with the required detail, to the other two, and then this very one who gives over the answer in the name of all the three Chassidishe Rabbonim.… .. goes thru a Rov that has the virtue that he is saturated with Chassidus, so this has with it all manner of steadfastness, even steadfastness in regard to ignoramuses though they have no connection with the inner torah,…

…So this is the main point, it should not be lost, as to not discern what the main point is, in this that was said before, “let us come and contemplate the accounting of the world and of man.

so the clear answer is, that one asks of three Chassidishe Rabbonim, or through one of them, or through all at once, and the greater amongst them, or all of them together give over the resolution.

This is in addition to the stated resolutions, that were already mentioned earlier, as for the mishna’s command “Asei Licha Rav” (make for yourself a teacher) that everyone asks his Rav, similarly “uTeshua Broiv Yoetz”([expert] advisory groups) similarly.. so too in healing ..(matters of health), as spoken previously.

yet this has no connection with “boi nachshoiv cheshboinoi shel oilom” (last will) similarly but even more so, and more strength in regards to this our matter, that this is also the clear matter in an illuminated manner, and leaves no doubt, that this pertains to these three,(Rabbonim) and in every place and place, that has for it self its own Chassiddishe three Rabonim….IT IS GIVEN OVER, over there given over to the minds of those, all the more so when it concerns several cities and several countries, in every place and place according to the council of the Chassiddishe Rabonim in every place or in every neighborhood and even more so, in every country.

Such councils already exist, they also receive this task and this Shlichus and this power, that with joy and goodness of heart, they should give over the psak din that was mentioned, yet this is not a judgment but a privilege, and a matter of “hiskashrus”(connectedness to the Rebbe) until the connectedness.. of Yisroel torah and hashem are one.

As mentioned before, this is said in a manner that there should be left no kind of doubt. Not even a doubt of holiness, as one may want to conceal it, this is a clear matter a psak din in torah, and a psak din in the inner torah, as mentioned, in addition of a judgment, it’s a din of merit, and it comes down in manner of vindication, and clear and clean, as spoken earlier at length.

Simply [put] there should be no place for re-asking again, IT WAS GIVEN OVER, as was already initiated several times before this, as it was seen by those who contemplated the conduct of our Rebbes our leaders, or they would at least now contemplate the stories of their conduct as they conducted them selves, one would immediately see, even in the thinking of the g-dly soul even to the thinking of the animal soul, how this was their conduct several years, till this literally added long days and good years, and it is self understood and does not need to be stressed again, that THIS GOES OVER, if it needs to GO OVER and when it needs to GO OVER, or stays in both ways.

.as we find by Moshe Rabeinu, that yet before the giving of the torah..
…before “go out to fight amalek”.. he had already GIVEN IT OVER to yehoshua bin nun, his student, … ..Moshe received the torah and immediately GAVE IT OVER TO YEHOSHUAH in his lifetime…..He had immediately GIVEN IT OVER TO YEHISHUAH, and so too from time to time as he received more, more was received by yehoshua…

…Yehi Rotzon that this matter, should immediately nullify any matter of questions and doubts etc….

this “accounting” adds blessings…

.. and this is also the idea of repeating again the pivotal point, that this is a clear matter and there were no questions in the first place, this is that, one asks of the Chasidishe Rabonim, in the manner mentioned earlier. Then this becomes the matter as is befitting the inner torah, and revealed torah, the both become one, as mentioned earlier. ..and all this gets done , in the obvious and revealed good, and in Bonoh Chaye Umzoino Reviche, of each and every one and in all in abundance, and all this speeds up the redemption …

… it is understood …that Chassidim and all Chassidim, and those who have a connection to chassidim,…. everything becomes clear in a manner of a clear psak din penetrated with chasiduss that includes chassiduch chabad especially, nigla Hatorah with pnimiyus Hatorah as mentioned earlier a Chassidish Beis Din through the senior amongst them, through most or through all of them. and in all these matters with joy and gladness of heart in a obvious and revealed good, …..

Every one in his own way, should take to heart and he becomes and is called according to the true torah “alive”.…

…. The main thing is that from all these matters comes out the actual deed, that all the aforementioned doubts all nullified, and consequently is nullified the doubt of when will Moshiach come already….

… And from a tranquil spirit and a very great joy, for there is no joy like the removal of doubts….

… and the point of the matter is, as stated …..there is no place for any questions, and the Chassidshe Rabonim in every place where the are to be found, especially when there is three, it becomes a Beis Din, and where the is less, they can join with them also from another place, or from that place as it says in regards to the big Sanhedrin, and then this becomes as brought down by a Psak Din of our holly torah….

this is the point, as mentioned before, …this is the point, that it becomes a clear matter how one needs to conduct himself, for long days and good years, and conduct himself, not to allow any matters of confusion, and if there is somebody that has some question, whatever it may be, in these matters, so there is already prepared in the first place the answer, that he will receive through the Chassidishe Rabbonim as a Beis Din ither through all of them or through the greater amongst them, the unique one amongst them or the one that they will choose, …….

… The point of the matter is, that it becomes nullified all questions and calculations, and this becomes GIVEN OVER to the Beis Din Tzedeck of the Chasidishe Rabonim, as mentioned before in detail. …
Trough the Beis Din of every place, to all Chassidim and all of Bnei Yisroel, that find themselves in “Man Malka Rabonon” that they are his Beis Din Tzedek, ……”

End Sicha quotes.

  • A destroyer

If you would quote the Rebbe’s sichos without giving the whole introduction basically trashing everything that’s somewhat holy – then it might have penetrated someone’s ears.

But, since you quoted it to bring out a point about your dismay with the “system” – it is a taken as a baseless “rant”, and people perceive that your hate and disillusionment are speaking thru your throat.

A point to ponder for your next Op-Ed…

  • Learn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the Rebbe’s Sichos (and simple understanding of Tanya Perek Beis) – A Rebbe must be alive physically in order to function as the Nasi Hador.
    Learn and you’ll know!

  • gods right hand man

Well it is nothing new the many misconsrueing and / or misinterpeting actions and words to serve their interests
according to chochma and daas that is what happened to many times and I have seen the costs
the potential of world jewery has yet to be realized

  • yechi aonenu morenu verabenu

gimel tamuz was a test to see if we will sink into melancholy and stop functioning as lebedikke chassidim now that we dont have a rebbe in a physical sense, we will show the rebbe that its not so! we still believe the rebbe is nosi dorenu and will bring us as moshiach to the geula haamitis vehashlema!!

(now all antis are going to start…. doenst matter. i said what i believe in and what i have to.)

  • Yechi HaMelech

Thank you. Those who have sown the seeds of discord and distruction have no desire to see this sicha in print, because the fact is that one of the “drei chassidishe Rabbonim” the Rebbe was referring to was Rabbi Osdoba, whom they are fighting, by fighting Rav Osdoba, and his Beis Din, you are fighting the Rebbe..R“L.

Since, after Gimmel Tammuz, our hiskaashrus is fulfilled by listening to the directives of this sicha, those who obscure these words conspire to cut off their own and other’s hiskashrus, . Witness the absurd: They scream hiskashrus, the Rebbe is alive, we have a Nasi, Yechi Hamelech, but when it comes to the Rebbe’s clear undisputed word and directives, they trample them R”L, and defy one of those 3 Chassidisher Rabbonim, who is actually the Senior Rov, whether they like it or not..

My dear friends, actions speak louder than words. You may scream Yechi with all your koach, but your actions scream louder: that after Gimmel Tammuz,we don’t need to listen to the Rebbe….R”L.

  • for sure

rthe rebbe is right was right and will continue to be right

it is nebach us chasidim that fail him every time

how can anyone trust rabonim today (unfortunantly even chassidishe)

when a psak din is changed due to political pressure

when rabonim argue (that is putting it mildly) like here in crown heights

when they argue in israel …..

look whatthe posuk says in parshas yisroie “You must seek out from among all the people capable, G-d-fearing men, men of truth, who despise gain”

then maybe we able to impliment the rebbes holy words

and then maybe we could save our generation and our childrens generation to “yamenu behashem uvemoishe avidoi ”

  • Mosheh

It seems that you are suggesting to appoint a new Rebbe, Chass VeSholom. You want a new Rebbe, a new leader, isn’t it? But know that the Rebbe is still the Rebbe. And it’s something which Anti’s and Meshich…agree on.

  • Adam Curry

I think, and always have thought, that Lubavitch needs a new Rebbe. I know that the topic is taboo, but there are many others in Crown Heights who inwardly feel the same way as I do.

I want to answer your points:
<how can anyone trust rabonim today (unfortunantly even chassidishe)>
because the Rebbe said we should.

<when a psak din is changed due to political pressure>
That’s YOUR political interpretation, and probably not your own, but whoever you received your (mis)information from, it’s source is the cartel that is forcing itself into power.

<when rabonim argue (that is putting it mildly) like here in crown heights>
There was no arguing in the BADATZ for over 20 years, till 5761, when a faction of divisive individuals contrived a plan to marginalize the Rov, and take over the Beis Din by appointing their own “new Rov”, using the front of an unopposed “election – a similar plan was exposed, and thwarted by the Rebbe in 5746, when he asked for free elections to be held by the tzibbur. –

Chaval that the above group of individuals received Rabbi Osdoba’s well-meaning haskomo to run their fatally flawed “election”, disregarding the precedent approved by the Rebbe, for the election to be run by the Ntzigim, NOT the VAAD, (or other Mosdos..), . The arguing all stems from this one group. The (ir)responsible members are well known, and the behind the scenes orchestrators are at this point too. Please don’t say that the “Rabbonim” are arguing, when the machlokes has been one-sided since the beginning, like that of Korach against Moshe, Moshe was not a “tzad”. This machloikes is NOT l’shem shomayim, so thank G-d will not have a kiyum, and the Rebbe will prevail in his Shechunah.

<then maybe we able to impliment the rebbes holy words > Oy, such “Hiskashrus”! Do you doubt that the Rebbe’s words apply now, or can be applied? Just distance yourself from the Adas Korach before it’s too late.

<and then maybe we could save our generation and our childrens generation to “yamenu behashem uvemoishe avidoi ”> here I agree with you, you know what’s at stake, no more need be said.

    To Moshe:

Aderaba, it’s you who are saying that after Gimmel Tammuz, the Rebbe’s words are irrelevant. It’s the Rebbe who said/says “Man Malka Rabbanan.” do you or don’t you believe that the Rebbe’s alive? Who is YOUR Rebbe?

  • oh my stars....

    Dear Brothers,

I was there when the Rebbe said if things dont change The Rebbe would leave! Well, I guess some people are not up to speed about things….The Rebbe told us that we need to have a personal Rav. How many do?

  • Achdus

Kinderlach the Rebbe also said that Rabbonim have to give the advise together you may talk to one of them in certain situations butthe advise must come as the advise of a unified beis din.

It seems to me that our main goal shouyld be to unite the Rabbonim of the Bais din and to make sholom not matter what happened in the past.
Perhaps the people around the rabbonim should be changed for people that are not known for not having taken sides and then let the chassidishe Rabbonim do what they have to do, sit together and give advise together.

  • chaim

in that seecha the Rebbe clearly gives over authority to three chassdisheh Rabonim in every city.

we don’t like that so we don’t want to repeat it, or print it.

but listen to that seecha and you will hear clearly.

Nobody is suggesting a new Rebbe C’V we need to follow the Rebbe by listening to a bais din of three chassidishe Rabbonim in every place. its clear.

Having a Rav and advice groups are a separate thing, the Rebbe said so. just listen

we still want Moshiach now, more than ever.

  • yossef

we need to get organized, and find the three solid Rabbonim, in every community,

there are Dinnim and rules how a Bais Din should conduct themselves,

    for example:

    a. speaking in one voice.

    b. they should be represented by the one that is the greatest of the group.

    c. A Dayon is not allowed to tell anybody that he was a minority opinion in a psak din, he must act according to the ruling of his fellow Dayonim.

  • Levi

Maybe its time that Kehos or sichos in english can publish this sicha in a booklet so that we can all know what the Rebbe said on this very fundamental subject.

  • Shoftim Titen Lecha

Levi wrote“Maybe its time that Kehos or sichos in english can publish this sicha in a booklet so that we can all know what the Rebbe said on this very fundamental subject.”

There is a kuntres that has been printed in 5752 with sichos, shulchan aruch, letters of the rebbe, rambam, etc. all regarding the topic of Rabbonim (and how the Rebbe is very satisfied with the drei chassidishe rabbonim of then…)
the kuntres is called Shoftim Titen Lecha. anyone know how to get a hold of it?

  • Achdus

I think that the whole of Crown Heights should get together in one big group hug
