Rent Freeze Goes Into Effect For Some NYC Tenants
For some New York City tenants signing leases today, it’s a breath of fresh air.
The city’s first-ever rent freeze on one- and two-year leases goes into effect today after a contentious Rent Guidelines Board process now facing a legal challenge.
The board voted to approve the freeze in June, meaning landlords cannot raise the rent on lease renewals for the city’s million rent-stabilized units. The apartments will stay at the same price for one to two years.
