Investigators: Boro Park Explosion May Have Been Intentional

Investigators now say that the Saturday explosion in an apartment building in Borough Park that left two people dead might have been intentional.

From VIN News by Glen Silver:

Fire officials have now backed off their original statements alluding to natural gas from a stove being the cause of the blast, and are now focused on video surveillance of the incident and a social media trail left behind by one of the dead victims for answers.

According to video of the event, explosion experts now believe gas was not a factor because of a simultaneous blast and fireball initiated from the second floor apartment of one of the deceased, 48-year-old Francisca Figueroa.

Experts say the type of blast doesn’t match up with similar explosions in which gas is a factor.

Officials also said that Figueroa’s gas had been shut off in June coinciding with her eviction, and one source has said the mother of three sent out farewell texts to her children just prior to the blast Saturday afternoon.

She really had it in for her landlord. She was known as a nasty woman. She called the cops to harass her landlord many times. This was a chemical explosion set off by her. Vh
