Bloomberg to Veto Ban on Pesky Sanitation Stickers

NY Daily News

Mayor Bloomberg said he was “adamantly” against a City Council bill to ban the Sanitation Department from slapping the pesky, fluorescent stickers on cars that block street-sweeping trucks.

“I think it’s one of the least productive things that could be legislated,” he told reporters. “Stickers are an enforcement tool that have shown that they keep our streets clean and if you take them away there’s no reason to believe that we won’t go back to the dirty streets that we had before.”

Mayor Bloomberg is expected to veto the bill, but City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has said that the council may be able to override that veto with over two-thirds support.

“I’m disappointed but not surprised the mayor opposes legislation which would make life a little less frustrating for New York City drivers,” said bill sponsor David Greenfield (D-Brooklyn).

what a shvantz. seriously. what I don’t get is, he may not like that they spent time on what HE calls unproductive, but they did it, and it passed overwhelmingly, so why be a davkanik and veto it? I really hope they can override the veto, because the basic principle is correct. We dont go out of our way to shame murders and thieves who are convicted, but innocent people who might have had good reason for not moving it, need to be shamed and causes so much difficulty to get it removed?

This man should not even be in office now, 3rd term will go down in history of NY as the biggest disaster.

  • umm ok!!!! eyes rolling

I dont see the point of punishing someone twice for the same infraction. He already received a huge ticket for being on the wrong side why punish him again. Its so moronic!!1

Not surprising at all. It seems that our dear mayor will do anything he can to punish drivers. Just look around CH. Bike lanes, our recent addition of those wonderful extended corners that took away more hard to find parking spots. The Mayor was strongly against the bill a few years ago that did away with the need to feed the meters on Sundays too.

  • Dumb

all it causes is more litering.
When I get a sticker I dispose of it on the street.

Mayor Bloomberg – keep shooting yourself in the leg you idiot.

4 and they also have the nerve to write “don’t liter” on those stickers. After defacing your car.
