Picture of the Day: Remembering the Lives Lost on 9/11

2,996 lives were claimed in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001; among them were 418 first responders and emergency workers. Police officers from the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights held a brief memorial service in their honor.

The service consisted of the ‘platoon’ officers – the officers who were on duty at the times of the attacks, and were not on emergency calls.

The names of the 23 NYPD officers who lost their lives on that day were read out, followed by a moment of silence.
