Governor Cuomo: No Wine Sales in Grocery Stores

It appears very unlikely that wine will be sold in New York grocery stores next year. That word comes from State Senator Tom O’Mara following Governor Andrew Cuomo‘s comment last week that he does not support that move.

O’Mara says the governor in the past has been quiet on the issue, voicing neither support or opposition to it until last week.

O’Mara said the news is discouraging to Finger Lakes wineries that have been very active pushing for wine in grocery stores. O’Mara said he has supported legislation to do that.

O’Mara says the New York State Assembly has long opposed the sale of wine in grocery stores and adding the governor’s opposition to it presents a real roadblock to moving the effort forward.
