New Yorkers’ E-Zpass to Get 34% Toll Hike in NJ

Here’s another reason to steer clear of New Jersey. Out-of-state E-ZPass users will be stripped of an off-peak discount in the Garden State starting July 1—which essentially amounts to a 34 percent toll hike.

The toll increases will apply to anyone with an E-ZPass tag issued outside New Jersey—including Port Authority tags, which most New Yorkers have.

    So let’s start giving dicounts to New York cars for New York tolls and keep charging New Jersey residents full price for the same tolls.

    New York has been charging out-of-state EZ-Pass owners the cash rate forever. So it’s hardly in a position to complain.
