BDE: Mrs. Miriam Ziberstrom, 90, OBM

With great sadness we report the passing of Mrs. Miriam Zilberstrom OBM, of Bnei Brak, Israel. A mother of a large Chabad family, in Israel and Canada.

She was 90 years old.

Miriam Zilbershtrom was born on 17th of Tammuz 5690 to her parents Rabbi Tuvya and Sheva Spiegel, of the distinguished families of Bnei Brak. Seventy years ago when the proposed shidduch to her husband Rav Aharon Mordechai was suggested, Rav Aharon Mordechai sent a telegram to the previous Rebbe asking for a Bracha.

The Frierdiker Rebbe responded with a telegram with the following:
י”ב תשרי ה’תש”י. במענה על הטלגרמה אודות הצעת השידוך, נכון להתקרב לגמור בכי טוב בגשמיות וברוחניות

Translation: 12 Tishrei 5710, in response to the telegram regarding the shidduch suggestion, it is appropriate to get close so it should be completed well physically and spiritually.

With the bracha from the Frierdiker Rebbe, the wedding was set for the 13th of Shvat of that year.

After the terrible news of the Histalkus of the Frierdiker Rebbe on Shabbos parshas Bo tenth of Shvat 70 years ago, the Chosson and Kallah sent a rushed telegram to the Rebbe (known as the Ramash those days), whom the chosson Rav Aharon Mordechai knew well, requesting guidance. He had meet with the Rebbe personally, and spent a few months in proximity of the Rebbe in Paris during the Rebbe’s visit to Paris in 5707). Based on the Rebbe’s instruction the wedding was pushed off until after the Shloshim and was ultimately celebrated on 18th of Adar 5750.

For many years she remained loyally at her husband’s side while he built the “Reshet” (Reshes Oholei Yosef Yitzchak – the Chabad Lubavitch Educational arm in Eretz Yisroel). While her husband traveled the country establishing schools, she dedicated herself to raising their seven children allowing her husband to dedicated both days and nights to fulfill the Shlichus the Rebbe placed upon him.

She was very dedicated in the Rebbe’s Mivtzoim, and would go out weekly to partake in Mivtza Neshe”k and other mivtzoim that pertained to Jewish women. Should would study each Shabbos with her husband the weekly “likut” that was just published and arrived from the Rebbe. She was a steller example of Yiras Shomayim, good middos, Chinuch al taharas Hakodesh, modesty and humility.

She leaves behind her children: Rabbi Binyomin Nachum Zilberstrom (Jerusalem, Israel), Rabbi Tuvia Zilberstrom (Jerusalem, Israel), Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Zilberstrom (Lod, Israel), Rabbi Chanoch Henech Zilberstrom (Kfar Chabad, Israel), Rabbi Dovid Zilberstrom (Kfar Chabad, Israel), Mrs. Esther Shochat (Toronto, Canada), and Mrs. Chana Ginsburg (Haifa, Israel).

She is predeceased by her husband Rabbi Mordechai Ahron Zilberstrom obm.

The Levaya will take place in Israel, at 7:00pm, with burial on Har Hazaysim.
