Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Mr. Nosson Werdiger, 93, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mr. Nathan (Nosson) Werdiger OBM, an Australian businessman and philanthropist who supported many organizations and institutions in Australia and around the world. He was 93 years old.

Nathan was born in Poland in 1924. When he was 16 he and his family were rounded up and taken to Aushwitz, where he and his brother Nechemia were the only survivors of the horrible “selection” process run by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele.

After the war he made his way to Australia where he established himself as a successful businessman and later one of Melbourne’s largest landowners.

His philanthropy reached all around the world and he was renowned for supporting many different Jewish causes.

He is survived by his wife Nechama and children Debbie Nossbaum, Michelle Feiglin, Miriam Goldschmiedt, David Werdiger and Shlomo Werdiger, all of Melbourne, Australia.

The Levaya will take place on Monday and will be held at the Melbourne Chevra Kadisha in Springvale.
