Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Reb Sholom Schtraks, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Reb Sholom Schtraks, OBM, of London, UK, a devout Chosid, and dedicated husband and father to Chabad Chassidim and Shluchim all over the world.

Reb Sholom’s father, Reb Nachman Zev Schtraks, made headlines many decades ago when he took custody of his grandson, Yosseleh Schuchmacher, and hid the young boy from his irreligious parents, who he feared would return with the boy to communist Russia. The boy was later found hiding in Brooklyn by Israel’s intelligence agency, the Mossad, and returned to his parents in Israel.

In the years following this historic episode, many of Reb Nachman Zev’s children became Lubavitcher Chassidim, including Reb Sholom, who later moved to London, where he raised his two sons and three daughters.

Reb Sholom is survived by his sons: Kalman (London, UK) and Menachem (Edgware, UK), and Daughters: Mrs. Ita Teller (Edgware, UK) Mrs. Soro Lipszyc (Thornhill, Canada) and Mrs. Chana Igby (Shenley, UK).

    B.H. TO THE SCHTRAKS FAMILY.
We are very saddened to hear of your loss, and we wish you, gezunt, long life and many simchas to follow.
We were at your parents wedding, which we remembered, was during the week of Hanukkah, and then we got married some months later, and your late parents attended our wedding. We were always friends.
